What does navigation data actually do?

I am a Linux user, and I use the Navigraph Charts webapp. I am unable to use SimLink, don’t get the moving maps feature in Charts, and had to install the nav data by hand.

My question is, if I don’t have SimLink installed, does the nav data do anything? If so, what does it actually change within the game?

The Navigraph Navdata Update updates the navdata in your simulator to the latest available.

Thank you. My question is, what effect does the navdata actually have on the sim?

Hi,
Nothing much really. If you are using X-Plane it does affect the navdata and will update it for all aircraft using the X-Plane standard navdata.

I appreciate your replies, but it doesn’t answer my question. The question is, what is the functional impact, within the simulator, of updating the navdata? In other words, what is navdata?

Every road, cycle lane, footpath on google maps is Google Maps Nadata. Same thing in aviation. navigraph provides accurate and up to date airways, waypoints, procedural routings and much more.

That makes a bit more sense, thank you!
