Unable to reach Navigraph Server AGAIN

Since the update 3 days ago my Charts will refuse to show the aircraft icon in the moving map, until it decides to. This is a frustrating issue. Simlink is unable to reach the Navigraph server is the issue and it seems random at this point since the update.

I thought I solved this yesterday, by uninstalling Charts and Simlink, deleting the associated folders in the install dir and appdata. Then reinstalling. That sorted it. Or so I thought.

And now? Just like the other day when I went I first hit this issue, I have woken up from the previous evening’s happy simming, to this issue AGAIN.

NOTHING has changed on my system, unless elves break into my house in the night, start up my PC, enter my password and then go sick trying to screw things up.

Since removing all instances and reinstalling is not permanently fixing this, please dont send me to previous posts blaming 'configuration files are corrupt". No sir, the issue is THE LATEST UPDATE. The timing of this is just too co-incidental. I had no issues prior.

Looking through the log file it seems to be failing to connect to traffic.api.navigraph.com
The previous log file did make a connection which explains happy simming last night after reinstalling everything.
I do not have proxy server set in windows
My browser also cannot connect to that - took too long to respond. there is obviously a connection issue here that I cannot explain or solve
My ISP is Telstra Australia, the most rock solid and expensive ISP in the country
I am not experiencing any other connection issues with any other software or apps
AVG AV has exceptions for simlink and navigraph. I added those during troubleshooting and was obviously not needed prior to the update.
I am not using a VPN, and when I do it makes no difference
Running simlink as admin makes no difference
On restarting simlink it shows ‘not broadcasting flight data to server’
Signing out and back in to simlink makes no diffference

And now, for no reason at all - the connection came back.
But for how long…
Do NOT consider this a solution though. Keep this open please.
During a tracert to the server the connection gets to my ISP and a few hops beyond and then timed out. 1 minute later it worked. There is some connection issue between your server and this part of the world. Please check your API server is not dropping or rejecting connections.

Please can you upload the log files which you have referenced in your postings. Thank you!

In nearly 99.9% of cases, this is a connection issue between your ISP and our S3 environment. We don’t block anything.

So please upload the good and not good log file to which you refer here, so that we can analyze it.

By the way, you can’t open an API URL (without special parameters) via a browser.

And I know what you are saying, however the connection between me never having this issue before, and then suddenly immediately after the latest update and since… well that needs explaining

and one last word while on the subject, haing worked in server support myself in a previous life, servers have an unnatural ability to do unexpected weird stuff just by walking past them, like rejecting connections - if it were me I would be checking the connection logs to be sure

not that I really had the time to peruse those logs properly but I don’t think any of them show a connection and that first file is not from y/day as I first assumed. i dont appear to have one. just the liitte one from earlier today and the one that is too large to upload which is currently still getting written to as I am flying a long flight atm

Your logs indicate that your computer is spontaneously having a hard time reaching our servers. There are 6 (!!) instances of this error in your log:

But the majority of the requests are successful, which is great!

Our servers are hosted on AWS, the world’s leading cloud provider, and we have no reports of this being an issue for anyone else. Our server logs are showing a steady stream of incoming traffic from all over the world. The HTTP_CODE: 0 is to be considered an “undefined” error, and our servers would never send such a response. It is common for firewalls to be able to cause this, but in since the issue is intermittent in your case I find that a little hard to believe…

Any ISP, including a well-respected one, can have issues with this - they have to route the traffic from you to Ireland in this case. Bringing in other apps into the equation does not make any difference in this case, as they are very unlikely to be connecting to the same servers.

Let’s say that you are sending two packages to different locations. One arrives in time, and the other is returned to you due to the delivery company failing to find the location you provided. Would you then say that it should have arrived, because the other package had no issues?

Let’s then also say that the delivery failed because an intern misplaced a specific paper that connected your provided address to a real location. You send the package again, and this time they find the misplaced paper and can deliver the package.

Connection timeout issues can happen due to a myriad of different reasons, such as a faulty DNS server (which can be configured/changed on your PC, in your router, or at your ISP), a router firewall, a network driver update, router update, antivirus, etc.
My “real-world example” above describes the first possibility of a faulty DNS server.


All the above said, are you still having this issue? And if you do, have you tried a different connection and/or computer? Just to rule out any antivirus or local network-related issues.

We have had cases in the past where users have tried tethering their PC to their phone and that solves the issue, effectively narrowing down the scope of the issue to the router and/or network cable!
