Can somebody explain the “default” climb and decent profiles. I am trying to find an airframe that allows me to do decents at 500 - 1000 ft/min. I see a bunch that are just “default”, but no explanation as to what that is? Same question for climb profiles…
Dan
Hi, where are you seeing “Default”? Can you send a screenshot? Most SimBrief profiles use better names than that for the climb/descent, I don’t think any are simply called “Default”. But with 170 profiles I could be forgetting one.
Best regards,
The Default Climb and Decent profile is “Normal”. Sorry that is what I meant.
The M20 I think was “cloned” from the 172. But I would really like something like 500 / 700 / 1000 decent profile selections.
Dan
Ah I see. Customizing the descent profiles in this way is not currently possible, but the C172 “Normal” profile is around 700 fpm for what it’s worth.
Best regards,
Right so I guess I was confused by what “normal” was - and that probably depends on the airframe. Is that just expected to be known? Sorry for my ignorance, here.
Not expected to be known, no. It’s just that it really doesn’t make much difference how you descend. The fuel and time impact is negligible at the end of the day.
Best regards,
ok thanks, to give a little context as to the “why” of this question. I was told that flight sims use the descent profile to plan TOD on flights, because I was given a TOD that was like over 1000 ft/min in a M20 :). So I was trying to figure out what I could do to “correct” it. I will try an experiment with a “500 ft/min” model and see if that changes the TOD calculation on the GPS in MSFS.
