When you use moving map for tracking taxi to rwy, the triangle icon is very lagging behind, I wonder this has been reported and logged, but the update I installed today has no fix.
Hi,
We are not aware of this. Could you quantify? How much lagging (in number of seconds?)
The update isn’t instant but usually 1 update/second, so it is expected to be 1 second behind.
Regards,
Stephen
It’s hard to quantify by secs, the triangle always reach a turn after I already turn into it, the lag caused me a lot of wrong or missed turns which chart 7 was doing much better in sync and I never ever had issue. I am surprised and disappointed it’s not logged, some people brought this up in discord and others echo were told by officials to post in forum and they refused to respond there, so I m sure it’s not just me and it only has issue since day one on chart 8
Thank you for the feedback. We are investigating.
Regards,
Stephen
I reported the lagging issue already during the beta testing, but it was never been resolved. It is annoying when taxi to an assigned RWY on complex airports.
Hi,
Which app(s) are you using? Desktop, web, Android, iPad, or the ingame panel?

Stephen
Windows 10 PC desktop chart 8 latest version
Hi,
Thanks. We’re checking. In the meanwhile, in your next flight session it would be helpful if you could record using your phone the simulator and the Charts app simultaneously, while taxiing, where the lag is apparent. Upload here or send via DM to me.
Kind regards,
Stephen
On a Windows 11 desktop and using the Jeppesen airport charts for taxiing. Using Foreflight, it look like the direction of the indicator head corresponds to the nose of the aircraft and that reflects the correct position. Therefore I still use Foreflight for taxiing.
Hopefully this will help.
I performed an additional test and I noticed that if you taxi very very slow it does not lagging. So imo the update rate needs to be increased so it will follow a normal taxi airspeed of about 10-15 km/h
I did some tests and can’t seem to be able to reproduce. Here is a recording using MSFS and Charts Desktop app:
Sure, there is a 1-2 second delay always but this is because of the 1 Hz update rate of our moving maps system. But it should not make you miss taxiway intersections, etc. As you can see at 2:00 in the video, it reaches the runway almost exactly at the same time in the Charts app and in the sim (1 second delay approx):
Also remember that the tip of the magenta arrow is the location of the plane in the sim.
How does the video compare to your experience?
Regards,
Stephen
as you can see from this pict 1, the plane has entered the rwy but the arrow tip is still outside of it,
this pict 2 the plane has just lineup the center line but arrow still at an angle and line up later on, this sounds picky since this scenario is not critical, if you test more on some proper taxiing route to an assigned rwy in complex airport like EHAM you will find its pretty annoying, as i said, this does not happen on CHART 7, i will do a video when i have time later hopefully today.
p.s. you may try make multiple 90 deg turns on center line of taxiways, you may see lags more obviously
Hi,
Please do a video. In my view, both of the cases you highlight above are due to the 1-2 second delay I mentioned, and this is how it has always worked, also in the old app. Simlink and the backend is unchanged, also also the 1 Hz update in the new app.
In the old Charts 7 app, the center of the aircraft was also the center of the magenta symbol, which is different from Charts 8 where the center of the aircraft is the tip of the magenta symbol. So it might look more correct in the old app, if you were expecting that tip of the magenta symbol was the center of the aircraft in the old app. Then this position offset would partly compensate the 1-2 sec lag. Could that be the difference you are experiencing?
Kind regards,
Stephen
Hi,
may be that tip becomes center of plane that causes the lag effect, the way in chart 7 could be the solution, too bad i cannot test that again.
In the above pictures, one with the new desktop app and one with the sim build in old app, clearly shows the lagging of the desktop app.
Personally I have problems with missing intersections which not very appreciated in VATSIM.
Hope this clarifies the situation.
great finding, my picture showing an in-game panel moving map vs 2nd pict is chart 8, i stop and took these pictures, notice the difference of ARROW position, and yes chart 8 definitely lags a lot more.
