STAR AND APPR issues

Hi!

First of all i’m just learning how to read and navigate so forgive me if i say something obvious or stupid.

I’m trying to fly from EHAM to EDDB and this is the proposed STAR for EDDB:

When approaching the airport ATC says to use NUKRO Approach which ends in this:

This means i can go directly to 06L or have i got to go to NUKRO and then back somehow ?

If for example i choose KETAP things start to get hectic:

This means i have to go to KETAP and fly the whole APPR or just continue the STAR and use the final part to go to 06L?

What do you mean by “the ATC”? Like which simulator, and are you using the built-in ATC or a third-party addon?

Does the ATC in question let you file a flight plan of sorts?

Tim

So I’m using FBW in MSFS 2024 and using in game ATC (which truth be told is really bad). I plan using navigraph and then copy to simbrief and then import to MCDU

My question really is more related to how interpret and fly those charts. Should I fly the whole STAR and APPR or just the bits that make it to the runway

The real question would be: what does the built-in ATC expect you to do? Without additional information I would program the appropriate NUKRO RNAV transition for your runway/approach, fly direct to NUKRO and then fly the full arrival.

Looking at the more generic question, these long arrivals are designed for traffic management; IRL, it’s likely ATC would, at some point, give you a shortcut via a direct to, but if you’re flying with built-in ATC then it probably won’t do that.

When flying offline or on VATSIM if there is no ATC arriving into such an airport I tend to give myself that kind of shortcut:

Tim
