SimLink drives me crazy

SimLink is a closed book for me. After I had to setup my PC again I had to reinstall the before very well-functioning Charts and SimLink. Now SimLink has also become a nuisance for me. I have two problems But now I just want talk about SimLink. I am attaching photos that are self-explanatory. My sim is XP12. What is there reloaded of MSFS ?? Why the installation of SimLink is so damn complicated?

Hello! Thanks for your feedback, let’s figure this out together!

The note about MSFS is just there to remind those who use that simulator that they do not need to install any plugins for it to work. You just need to have Simlink running in that case!

However, for X-Plane 12 you need to install a plugin that sends position updates to Simlink. Based on your 2nd and 3rd screenshots, Simlink does not have the correct path to your X-Plane installation, which means that it can’t install the plugin.

Is your simulator located directly within the Program Files (x86) directory? Not only is X-Plane 12 not a 32-bit application, it is usually installed in its own directory. Here is what it looks like for me for example:

Is the X-Plane.exe file located directly in C:\Program Files (x86), or is it located in C:\Program Files (x86)\X-Plane 12 or similar? If it is located directly inside the program files directory, then it is likely that you are having permission issues because of how Windows default permissions.

To me, it sounds like you accidentally installed X-Plane 12 into C:\Program Files (x86) thinking that it would create a new X-Plane 12 directory for you, but instead it installed the simulator directly in that folder. If that is the case, please reinstall the simulator in a dedicated folder.

Regardless of whether you do the above or not, please also follow these steps:

  1. Open Simlink
  2. Select the Plugin Status tab
  3. Press Plugin settings in the bottom right
  4. Find the X-Plane 12 entry (shown in your 3rd screenshot) and press the three dots image to bring up the file browser
  5. Select the folder that contains the X-Plane.exe file
  6. Press the button to the right of those three dots, now labelled Install Simlink.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further issues.

Kind Regards,
Malte

Thank you very much for your detailed reply. It is fantastic. SimLink is running again.

May I ask you one more question in relation of XP12 und Navigraph Charts? To export the FPL from charts to XP12 I made a file FMC-Plans into the file OUTPUT. So far so good. After entering the FPL name under CO RTE in the FMC of the aircraft, the Route cannot be found. The message appears: ROUTE NOT FOUND Do you have any idea what’s wrong?

I am happy to hear that it worked out for you!

  1. Export the flight in the .fms format (labelled “X-Plane 11/12” in Navigraph Charts)
  2. Put the .fms file in <x-plane install directory>/Output/FMS plans
  3. You should now be able to load the route from within the simulator. The procedure depends on the addon that you are using!

There are many online tutorials for this, so if you get stuck you can google “How to load FMS file into X-Plane 12” and you should see several step-by-step tutorials in video format!

Kind Regards,
Malte
