Why does Simbrief continue to run in the background even though you have terminated the main programme, what is the aim of this anomaly, why do you have to go to the icon tray to close it down?

Because the whole point of the program is for it to detect, in real time, whenever you generate a flight on SimBrief. Then offer to export (or automatically export) your selected formats to the appropriate folders.
To do this, it has to remain running in the background on the PC. But it would get pretty annoying if it stayed as a minimized window the whole time, hence the task bar icon feature.
