Hey, I don’t want my name showing up on other people’s maps. It may be OK to use our MSFS callsign, but not our names.
I am assuming when Online Networks is On, I will appear. If it is Off, I do not appear on other people’s maps.
I like to see traffic/planes on the map but I think we should have an option to hide our Identity, or maybe you should globally remove our names for the sake of these concerns.
Totally understand what you mean, and agree that if it could somehow work, it would be great… but many other tracking services, if not all, also show our names on the maps…I think its public data in one sense and Navigraph is simply pulling the data associated with your VATSIM CID; and there wouldn’t technically be a way for Navigraph to break that link of association on their end for other peoples’ viewing…
The only way I could see this feature come to life is for the end-user to hide names on their own end, kinda like a “streamer mode” if they are using the charts to display their own flight, but also slightly pointless since anyone could just lookup the flight themselves and find out the info…
Maybe the professionals have a workaround but this is just my thought and reasoning.
You have the option to log on as your VATSIM CID, and not your name. And thus your name wouldn’t come up on the Navigraph map
‘You are permitted to log into the network using just your first name (Robert), a short form of your full name (Rob), your full name (Robert Smith), a shortened full name (Rob Smith) or just your CID number (12345678).’
So if you are worried about privacy. Just use your CID
Can there be an option added that would hide the VATSIM names so we streamers who are showing off the Charts functionality aren’t displaying personally-identifying information of other people? I really don’t like that such info is published by VATSIM to begin with (and that’s not Navigraph’s fault - but I simply wish it was never published), and am aware of the CID option (which I personally use), but many people don’t use it or are not aware. Regardless, I feel very uncomfortable putting other people’s names out there on public-facing media. And I’m sure it will be abused at some point (to the extent it can be).
The other option is for us to not stream that functionality, but I’d hope that we’d all want it to be shown because it’s pretty awesome.
I contacted VATSIM support to ask them to remove my info. They refused, stating they do not delete users. I protested and they said I can change my name to as Vatnsfjord stated but will not delete the account.
However, they said an inactive account will eventually be deleted but they would not give me a length of time.
I do not believe I am being shown since I did not complete the 'tests" and have no connection between my PC and VATSIM server, as what I believe is needed to show my location. I do not believe Microsoft is sharing that information.
It is correct that we simply use whatever the networks provide us, so if you anonymize yourself on the networks your real name is not show in our apps either.
We are planning to add a setting to hide the pilot name altogether, whatever it contains.
