Lossiemouth TACAN (VORDME)

Hi, The Lossiemouth TACAN, 111.30, is only woreking as a DME. There is no radial showing for the CDI to tune in to.

My understanding is TACANS are VORDMEs in MSFS?

Hi,
TACANs are VORDMEs for military aircrafts. Not sure how the MSFS handles this, its more a question in their forum.

What I know is, that civil aircrafts need a VORTAC, because a civil aircraft gets the radial from the VOR part and the DME part from the TACAN. Military aircrafts get both from the TACAN.

So, its possible that the MSFS follows the same logic and therefore you get only the DME because this navaid is only a TACAN and not a VORTAC …

Richard is correct
And it will depend whether the aircraft is equipped with a TACAN receiver (military aircraft) or a standard NAV (VORDME) receiver (civilian aircraft). Standard NAV receivers only receive the DME part of the TACAN while TACAN receivers normally provide the azimuth and DME from the TACAN facility. Now, from my experience, it appears the internal coding of TACANs in BGL files doesn’t always provide a working azimuth even on aircrafts equipped with a TACAN gauge. At least it is the case in P3Dv2-v5 where TACAN facilities were implemented. I don’t know if it is the same thing in P3Dv6 and MSFS.

Cheers
