GQNO Airport Issues

Recently flew the ILS Z 06 approach into GQNO. I’m doing a tour of the coast of Africa. When I landed this runway and the other at the airfield are both roughly painted on dirt. I’m in MSFS2024. This is not the case in real life and in MSFS2020 if the base sim didn’t have the airport, a basic one was provided with no buildings using the AIRAC from Navigraph. This seems to have some idea it’s there, there are some buildings and a gas pump, however it is just mainly painted rough dirt. Anyone else have this issue, may just be the base sim hasn’t put this airport in correctly.

Hi,
I´m not sure, about your issue now? What issue do you exactly have now and in which sim?

Cheers,
Richard

I am using MSFS 2024. I flew the ILS Z 06 approach into the airport GQNO, Nouakchott–Oumtounsy International Airport in Mauritania, as I am flying around the coast of Africa. I am using the latest AIRAC from Navigraph installed in MSFS2024.

When I landed the runway was not paved but just rough markings painted onto dirt. On landing and looking around with the drone I could see both runways were not paved. This is not the case in real life. The approach flew per the Jeppesen plate, and I was able to taxi per the airport chart, it was just nearly all surfaces were unpaved.

When I used to fly in MSFS2020, if an airport was not in the base Sim but provided by the Navigraph AIRAC, it would be usable as paved runways with nothing else. This had buildings but no paved runways.

I’m not sure if this is caused by using the AIRAC from Navigraph or MSFS2024 just hasn’t implemented this airport correctly, so was just checking if anyone else saw this behavior at this airport and what might have caused it.

Understood; thank you very much for these details.

When GQNO exists in MSFS2024, please report this to ASOBO/MS because we can´t change/add any airports/runways in MSFS2024 compared to MSFS2020.

So, this issue can only be solved by ASOBO/MS and has nothing to do with any navdata provider. When you remove our packages, you will see the same runway surface precisely because it´s not part of our updates.

I´m sorry, but please report this to ASOBO/MS.

Cheers,
Richard

Thank you I will report to ASOBO/MS. Just to clarify you are stating that in 2024 you can’t add/update any runways or airports anymore, unlike 2020.

Navigraph’s data cannot add or update runways in MSFS 2020 either, as far as I know (nor can they do it for X-Plane).

Thanks, I’m not sure. I remember coming into LTFM (Istanbul) which seemed to offer runways only in MSFS2020, no scenery or taxiways, I assumed it was working at that level because I was using the Navigraph AIRAC, reports online still indicate it is missing in MSFS2020. The airport is also still missing from MSFS2024 which is very strange given is huge. You can look it up, it just has no usable runways.

It would be great if there was a blog post or support article that showed clearly what the AIRAC can and can’t do in MSFS by version. I mainly use Navigraph for flight planning, real-time tracking on a second monitor and the Jeppesen plates, put knowing this would be handy.

Either way, in addition to reporting the issue to Asobo, you can use third-party scenery: that form of addon is able to update runways for any airport.

I found the following freeware, for example:
