I am receiving this error trying to load simbrief on any computer on my home network. I have restarted the router and even reset it to default, and flushed everything.
I notice that there are very many other posts on the forum where people have a similar experience, and your advice is ‘contact your ISP’. But if so many people are having this experience with just your website, doesn’t this tell you that your site is doing something that is triggering this problem in very many places? Shouldn’t you investigate?
We’re sorry to hear that you are having issues connecting to SimBrief. Does the problem persist today?
There are indeed several other posts, and they always have something in common - an ISP and/or region. SimBrief servers are operating normally, and it is up to the ISPs to ensure that users like you can reliably find a route to it. We do not have the authority to tell ISPs what they should do, and it is often hard to narrow it down enough to even begin doing so.
From our perspective, the server is running well and is reachable by the overwhelming majority of our users, while relatively few cannot access it. This points to network connection issues beyond our control, so the answer is usually to contact the ISP - it has been the solution several times.
All that said, you could perform a traceroute to see where the issue may be! How you do this depends on your OS. Let me know if you need help with that! This should be all you need:
Thank you for putting the time into this thoughtful and helpful email. My concern was ISPs usually only begin to block a site when they the site has been flagged for one reason or another. Perhaps there is something the SimBrief site is doing that is triggering this.
For me, the issue resolved in about 24 hours, but it was still a bit frustrating knowing I couldn’t access one of my favourite and most-visited sites in that period.
Thanks again. SimBrief is just an incredible resource, and I hope everyone on the team knows how much it is truly valued.
Thank you for your kind words! I will make sure to pass them on.
I am happy to hear that it now works again!
To be clear: We do not believe that ISPs are blocking SimBrief. Instead, it is likely that some DNS servers along the way from you to the SimBrief servers have ended up in a state where they cannot find a route for your request.
This isn’t unheard of by any means, it happens sometimes. ISPs can usually help trace the issue down, which is why we recommend contacting them. More often than not, the issue goes away if you give it some time - much like in this case!
