Does the FMS Data Manager need to be active (running) when actively using FSX

Hi, once all updates are done (AIRAC updates) do I still need to have the app active when I launch FSX. Currently when I launch FSX I get asked if I want to run FMS Data Manager and I always answer “Yes,” Is it really necessary? I am assuming there is no interaction between the FMS Manager and FSX during a flight.

I know the Navigraph Charts is a different story which I access via my PMDG and QW EFB login.

Please confirm.
Thanks.
Kindest Regards.

Hi…,

Welcome back.

You do not need FMS Data Manager running once updates are complete.

It shouldn’t start when you run FSX. If you have Firefox, please see FAQ - Firefox may start an app when Simlink Starts.

Hi Ian;

Thanks for your response, my apologies for the misinformation. It’s the Navigraph SimLink not the Desktop Manager that’s launched (my bad). Is the link really needed during the flight? One time I forgot to run it when I launched FSX and I was still actually able to launch the charts via the PMDG EFB since I guess the Token (login) already existed from PMDG when I saved my login credentials before. Please confirm since I don’t what to have a service running in FSX if I can help it. The less the better :grinning: But on the other hand I don’t want to get a crash in the middle of a flight because I didn’t run it.

Thanks again.

Kindest Regards.

Hi…,

Simlink is needed if you wish to have Moving Map in our Charts apps. PMDG connects to your account without Simlink.

Ahhh… Got it…understood. Thanks for the clarification, I appreciate it.
