Hi. For the last few months I am getting a popup window whenever I start the Charts app telling me that I’m running an old unsupported version of the app. This is incorrect - I have the latest version with the annotations update. I get this on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 tablet. I don’t get it on my Samsung Galaxy S21 phone. I also don’t get it on my Windows PC version. I once uninstalled the app from my tablet and reinstalled it, but I still got this erroneous popup. It’s not a major bug, but it is irritating after several months. So I thought it was time to post here and get some advice. Thanks.
Hello! Welcome back to our forum.
Please add a screenshot of the message to your next post!
That message is only shown if you install a really old version of Navigraph Charts. Due to how this old version was built, it will look as if you are using the new version of the app - when in reality you are just using the web version of the new app through the old app.
A screenshot will easily show if this is the case.
Kind Regards,
Malte
I’ve taken a screenshot but cannot work out how to upload it in my reply. I have tried to copy and paste, but all that is displayed is just code. Please could you advise.
Hi, I’m having the same issue.
There’s no help for Android app in that guide.
The app version is 8.34.0
Any help would be much appreciated.
Hello! Thanks for posting that screenshot.
You are running an old version of the Charts application from the Google Play store. Please uninstall the Charts application from your phone and then install this app from the store instead:
This will fix the prompt for you. Let me know if you still have issues!
Kind Regards,
Malte
Hello Malte, I have responded by email
Hello Malte, this has solved the issue. However, I wonder because one day before I posted my message, I did uninstall the app and then reinstall it from Google Play store but it doesn’t worked.
Anyway, many thanks for your help.
That’s interesting! I can’t explain your experience, seeing as the old app has been removed from the Play Store for more than a year. Happy to hear that it works now though!
Kind Regards,
Malte
Are you sure about that? It is true that the version that did not work was, as I said, 8.34.0 but unfortunately, I did not take the precaution of noting the release. Is it possible that it was a different one?
Yes. I am sure. Here is the proof:
The old app wouldn’t even be allowed on the Play Store today if we tried to upload it, since it is built with tools that Google have since stopped supporting.
This is a confusion: You were running the old application (version 7.x.x
, not 8.34.0
) and due to how the old app was built, it started showing the web interface of the new application (available at charts.navigraph.com).
The result was the old application as a wrapper around the new one - which is bad from a performance perspective. The solution was to install the new version, released in the fall of 2022.
As to why you did not get the new version when uninstalling & reinstalling it previously - I have no idea! Unfortunately, the only one who could answer that is Google or you. It could be a cache issue, you could have multiple instances of the app installed, it could be anything really! The main thing is that it is now solved!
Kind Regards,
Malte
