App on old ipad

Greetings,
I followed a post where it was mentioned that the app is no longer supported for map view mode on older iPads.

I beg to not share this fact that a company like navigraph which has thousands of users don’t have the ability to have an old ipad and check the problem.

Not everyone has the possibility to update an ipad and, above all where an annual subscription is paid even for simulations where training is done with the home cockpit, it is not right for Navigraph to liquidate a customer with “we will reimburse you” because in any case the application is used to be able to also use professionally.

Therefore, with this new post, I invite you to work so that the app is compatible with old devices and/or to be able to release the old app for old devices which were fine anyway.

Best regards
Simone Soffiato

Hi Simone,

Welcome.

Which iPad model and year do you have?

Cheers
Ian

Tankyou Ian,
i pad is 4 with IOS 10.3.4.
Is possible to have a previous navigraph chart?

many thanks
Simone

hi Ian, have you check my version of IOS? is possible to release eventually an old navigraph app or users have old IOS? many thanks,
Simone

Hi,

I’m afraid this tablet and iOS version is not compatible with the vector chart rendering and other modern web technologies in Charts 8.

We are also not able to maintain the earlier Charts versions or data pipelines for a limited number of users. Sorry about that.

If you only used this specific device for Navigraph then contact account@navigraph.com with a reference to this post and we’ll refund.

Navigraph products may not be used in a professional context accoring to the terms of service. We do reserve the right to sunset old systems and apps as we move forward. We do our best to always support as many platforms as realistically possible given the resources we have.

Regards,

Stephen

Stephan,
I still don’t understand why you say that we are only a few users. In my circle of knowledge 90% are using pads like mine, only maybe you don’t have mass feedback from people posting in the forum.

Let alone if I have to buy a new ipad for an app. I don’t even find the refund right because btw on a non-professional level, it’s needed for the flight.

Patience, it will mean that I will not use the chart on my iPad and if anything I will evaluate when I will be able to purchase a new iPad.

Simone,

How can we know if we don’t get feedback from all these users?

I’m sorry but it just doesn’t make sense. You say that we must support all legacy apps for all eternity? I don’t think any software company does this, not even the big ones. For example, the latest version of the Chrome browser requires iPadOS 14. It is the way it is on the Apple platform, when they lock certain OS versions to specific hardware. You should contact Apple and voice your opinion about this, it is really them forcing you to get new hardware since they are blocking you from installing modern software, not Navigraph.

Kind regards,

Stephen

I don’t agree. It’s the first time I haven’t unlinked an app in old versions. It is only due to the fact that you have not tested the app and tried to make it compatible for older versions as well. In the other forum you declare that you don’t have old ipads to be able to test the app.

Sorry but it doesn’t matter, let’s keep the app as is until I buy a new ipad.

Hi,

Sure we do. I have an iPad 4 right here and I also cannot update the iOS beyond 10. It simply doesn’t support the modern web technologies needed for Charts 8.

Not sure how much further we can take this topic. We will simply not resurrect the old Charts app as its codebase is deprecated and not possible to maintain. Also it relies on completely different data pipelines which have already shut down, and they were not possible to maintain in paralllel to the new. Do you not have any other hardware to run the app, such as a desktop PC, laptop PC, or smartphone?

I know you are not accepting that the old app is no longer available, but there just isn’t anything we can do to bring it back only for you. The refund is the last resort, if you’d like to take that.
