Weather Missmatch Simbrief & Charts

Dear support, Im using Navigraph and Simbrief for my flight experience. What I’m not understanding is why there is sometimes a weather-missmatch between Simbrief and Charts. When I generate a flight in Simbrief the runway’s in use will be automatically generated. However, when I go over to Charts (after import from Simbrief) there is a mismatch in runways telling me in Charts that this runway is not in use. I then have to put the active runway from Charts into Simbrief and generate the flightplan again. Why are they not in sync?

Many thanks in advance for any reply,

Chris

Hi, runways in use depend on whether there is an ATIS available for the airport in question. Currently ATIS can be fetched from either real-world (USA only), or from an online network such as VATSIM, IVAO, or PilotEdge.

Maybe there wasn’t an ATIS available when you initially planned your flight, but one became available afterwards when you opened Charts. Or perhaps the ATIS was simply changed during that time.

Note that runways in use can change frequently depending on weather conditions, time of day, or local procedures. It is quite common for the runway on the flight plan to be outdated by the time pilots get into the aircraft, especially considering airline flight plans are often generated hours in advance.

With all that said, while I was checking this I did notice a new format of some German ATIS on VATSIM that wasn’t being properly read by SimBrief. This might result in a slight improvement to SimBrief’s runways in use at German airports going forward.

Best regards,

Hi, many thanks for the prompt reply. I’m not sure that a runway switch between planning and using charts happens within 2 minutes. To put this in perspective, I plan, generate it and than immediately load the plan into charts on my iPad. I do encounter these indifference very often but, it might be possible that runways switch just after I do have filed my flightplan. I’m not using VATSIM just the standard facilities within Simbrief and Charts. Anyways, many thanks for your answer and reply.

In that case it’s more likely that it had to do with the bug affecting German ATIS. You might see an improvement on your future flights, let us know if it’s better now!

Best regards,

Thanks again for the prompt reply. I indeed fly a lot within European airspace. I will keep an eye open and will post again with an update. Today it seems that there is no problem.

Again, many thanks for your prompt reply and support.

Have a nice weekend
