When planning a flight in Charts (VFR) the distance between two airports is calculated based on shortest distance and not based on the total leg distance between them.

Can you post an example of such a VFR flight? It should definitely not be based on the shortest distance.
Here is a flightplan to and from the same airport, with intermediary legs in between. In this case, the distance is calculated to be 272 NM:

Sorry, I was confused since you mentioned between two airports - the telemetry is showing the direct distance between you and the destination airport. It does not show you the remaining enroute distance, and this is intentional - it is related to the “Bearing to destination” option in that it disregards the route completely. Related post:
That said, we would like to add an additional metric that covers this in a future iteration! So thank you for creating this thread, much appreciated.
