Hi, I am new to Navigraph and simulated flying in general. I just flew a few times in X-Plane 12 without charts or anything. But I want to try Navigraph and got a subscription.
Now my question is: When I have created an IFR flight from destination A to destination B, what’s the easiest way to put that into my ToLiss A321 in X-Plane 12? Should I enter it manually into the MCDU? Or should I get familiar with SimBrief and import it somehow?
To be honest, I find the amount of tools a bit overwhelming. Can I skip learning SimBrief or do I need it? I find Navigraph Charts pretty intuitive to use so far, though.
If you’re new, it might be a good idea to just do it manually in the beginning.
The Navigraph Charts application can also export a flight plan in X-Plane 11/12 format, and once you place it in the correct folder, can be used as a “company route” in the ToLiSS (this is documented in the ToLiSS manual; I also advise you to take a look at the tutorial flight PDF, both are found in a subfolder inside the ToLiSS A321 folder itself – cannot remember the exact folder name off the top of my head, doc or manuals most likely).
simBrief would be the next step; among other things, it can help you find a reasonably realistic route between two airports, and rather importantly, determine the correct amount of fuel for your route and payload. simBrief itself is documented as well, see this link to the user guide:
Finally, the ToLiSS aircraft do integrate with simBrief to simulate ACARS-based flight plan import functionality, this is also explained in the ToLiSS documentation.
Thanks for your reply and advice. I searched for “company route” and “fms” in the ToLiss manual PDFs but couldn’t find anything related to that. But I’m gonna look into that further.
I’m sure SimBrief is a great tool, but for now I want to keep it as simple as possible. I want to put the aircraft on some runway, load the flight plan somehow that I created via Navigraph Charts, take off manually and activate the autopilot. At least that was my thinking.
Ok, I managed to load the .fms file via the MCDU (INIT page and then CO RTE and I put the name of the .fms file in there which has to be located under <X-Plane-folder>/Output/FMS plans).
The Airbus is following my flight plan now. So far so good. Thanks again
