Edmonton area frequencies

Good Day,

Some of the frequencies in the Edmonton area are incorrect, specifically the departure frequencies out of the smaller airports that underlie the Edmonton Terminal airspace - Edmonton Villeneuve (CZVL), Edmonton Josephburg (CFB6), Cooking Lake (CEZ3), Camrose (CEQ3), Wetaskiwin (CEX3) etc. These airports are missing 119.5 (it is listed as Terminal on the plates, but is the frequency that is given on IFR departure from those airports). The Navigraph data has departures out of those airports push direct to Edmonton Center, bypassing the terminal airspace in the area.

Is this the proper way to bring this up to have it updated?

Hi,
Thank you very much for your posting. I have checked our source database, and in all your examples (excl. CEZ3), the 119.50 frequency is defined as DEP.

You see this also in our chart app under INFO → COMMS:

Ex. CEX3

Ex. CZVL:

In most cases, the CTA frequency is 127.40 … at CZVL 119.50 is defined as ARR and DEP (also in the charts).

So, it´s a little bit tricky to identify which frequency means what, and it looks like there is no real “rule” here. Therefore, we take the communication type and “translate” it 1:1 to the datasets. I can´t verify if this is right because I don´t know these areas or their regulations between the handoffs. Still, as I see, also for our source provider, it´s hard to know exactly which frequency is for what - especially when one frequency will be used for multiple communication types.

Further, Canada does not have real public access to its AIP, so I can´t cross-check it against the AIP; in this case, I must trust the data, sorry.

Cheers,
Richard

Thanks for the quick reply!

You are right, in that charts does seem to show the correct data. However, it’s not reflected correctly in the sim navdata, and therefore in-game ATC pushes the wrong frequencies on handoffs. In game, one gets pushed direct from tower to centre (or vice versa on arrival), completely bypassing terminal (arr/dep).

Maybe I’m incorrect in assuming that Navigraph data also updates the in-sim comms frequencies, if this is the case then my apologies. However the frequencies in sim do change depending on whether I have navigraph navdata installed or not, so I’ve assumed navdata does update in-game frequencies.

As for the local knowledge, I can understand the confusion. In practice around this area, 127.4 is VFR terminal for VFR clearances through the Class C terminal airspace, while 119.5 is for IFR departures and arrivals.

Hope this helps clarify, thx!
