Many airport around the globe have no SID and/or STAR in their ATC flightplan. At this moment, simbrief does have it for all airports. Could this be a new feature where users can toggle a database on where a SID and/or STAR should not be filed? And can this be exported to IVAO and other networks? Thank you!
Hello, some airport will not have a SID/STAR. SimBrief will mirror the data base that Charts 8 uses. SimBrief will not show SID/STARs when there are not any in the database. Can you post a screen shot for us?
I meant like this: In many countries in Europe, airports do have SIDs and STARs, but these shall not be filed to ATC. However, Simbrief automatically does add them in the ATC Flightplan. Can this be disabled for these airports?
Currently this is intentional. A few things to keep in mind, based on my understanding:
SID/STARs can be included in the FPL that is transmitted to the IFPS. If they are included, the IFPS will check their validity and consider them when evaluating the flight profile. However, before it transmits the FPL message to the applicable ANSP or member states, it will remove the SID/STAR if that state requires it. This is why the FPLs on EDI-GLA all have them removed so consistently (when required).
Accordingly, SimBrief retains the SID/STAR in the initial FPL if the user includes it in their route. This provides the most flexibility, users who don’t want to include them can simply remove them from the route before generating (or manually delete them when prefiling).
When it comes to filing on an online network, SimBrief can “simulate” the role of the IFPS and remove SID/STARs where required. For example, it currently does this when prefiling on VATSIM (there is already an internal database of which FIRs require SID/STARs and which do not).
Several years ago, it did this when prefiling on IVAO as well, however many IVAO users (including ATC) complained about it and wanted the SID/STARs to always be included. At the time it seemed there was disagreement within IVAO management itself on how to handle this. Since then, I decided to keep the SID/STARs when prefiling until someone can provide me with an official policy or confirmation from the higher-ups at IVAO that they want them removed.
Long story short, if you can confirm that this is IVAO’s official policy, I can easily remove SID/STARs when prefiling from SimBrief. But I would like confirmation that everyone at IVAO is on the same page before I do this, to avoid a situation like last time.
Hello, this is Iñigo with IVAO HQ ATC Operations. I am wondnering if there is a link where we could take a look at the DB that determines for which FIRs SID/STARs are included in the ATC Fplan?
This way we can cross check this requirement with our divisions and hopefully take advantage of this feature without causing you inconveniencies.
I have googled and found nothing else which answers my question so this seems like a good place to ask …
I recently filed an IVAO flight plan (generated using Simbrief) for IFR flight in Italy.
ATC advised me that SID/STAR should be omitted when flying in Italy.
Next time, I will simply delete the SID/STAR at the pre-file stage but, out of interest, is there a list anywhere showing which other countries also require this omission?
Thanks Tim, that’s very useful… appreciated
I had to google the text above the chart which, translated into English says, “Other countries other manners. This is also the case in aviation, where in some places the SID / STAR is entered in the flight plan - while in other places it is not desired. Hence this overview where it is necessary to include the SID / STAR in the flight plan.”
I hope others will also find this information useful - thanks again.
Good afternoon and thank you for the explanation.
It took some time but after surveying local regulations across divisions, we would like to request the following logic when it comes to SID/STAR inclusion in ATC FPLs for IVAO please:
Exclude SID/STARs for the following airport codes:
E***
L***
GM**
GC**
UD**
UG**
UK**
UB**
Y***
NZ**
VH**
VM**
SB**
SN**
SS**
SD**
SL**
SU**
WA**
WI**
SP**
Notwithstanding the above, SIDs are always included for:
ED**
EI**
LJ**
STARs are always included for:
ED**
LO**
EI**
LJ**
Additionally, some remarks we received from several divisions, it would be great if they could be taken into consideration as well:
Particularly in Germany transitions should never be filed into the ATC FPL route. These transitions in Germany lead to the final approach of a RWY and can be recognized by their name with the runway at the end (e.g. KET25R). Simbrief oftentimes files these instead of STARs. As these are “by ATC only” you would have to file a STAR or, if there are no STARs, a simple “DCT”. But never a transition.
(E.g.: EDDB) Transition starting point and IAF coincide.
End FPL route with DCT if no STARs. Start route with DCT if no SIDs available.
I will be glad to provide this information via e-mail or more formal fashion if required.
