Cannot insall FMS Data Manager - "Drive or UNC you select does not exist"

I have downloaded the FMS Data Manager for Windows from my account page.

I use Windows 10 Pro.

After launching the installation the first couple of steps work fine: End User Agreement, Select Additional Tasks, Ready to install. As soon as I hit “Install” I get an error message that says that the “Drive or UNC Share you selected does not exist or is not accessible. Please select another.”

There is no possibility to select the drive or folder where I install - so how can I fix this?

I did have a previous installation of the FMS Data Manager in a place that no longer exists. Does that possibly cause the problem?

Thanks, Christian

Hi …,

I suggest a fresh start using exact procedure below :

Please disable any Antivirus and firewall. Uninstall AV if needed.

In FMS Data Manager Settings Unregister Account:

Use Windows to uninstall FMS Data Manager. Specifically:

  1. Press Start and open Apps & Features.
  2. On the right hand side, open Programs and Features.
  3. Find Navigraph FMS Data Manager in the list, select it, and press the Uninstall button above.

If they exist, delete folders:
c:\ProgramData\Navigraph and c:\Program Files (x86)\Navigraph.

Download and install latest FMS Data Manager to the default location.

Please let us know how you get on.

Cheers
Ian

Hello Ian,

Thank you very much for your quick response - very impressive!

I have done all the things you have suggested:

  1. Deinstalling the existing application. Had done that before, it says that it cannot find the uninst.exe file in the location. And indeed, the location does no longer exist (something must have gone wrong when I deinstalled the application previously with this method, before changing my drive and folder structure)
  2. Deleted the folders in C:
  3. Used CCClearner, but that did not solve issue 1)

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help,
Chris

Hi Chris,

So what happened when you installed FMS Data Manager into default location. Please provide screenshots of any error messages using Guide to posting Screenshots

Hi Ian,

Thank you for responding and for helping.

In fact, I have no choice at all where to install FMS Data Manager - I just hit install, so I presume it goes to the default location. Here are the screenshots, I did not leave out any step (so you can see that at no moment does the installer offer to select where to install the application)1

I presume that the problem comes from an old installation of FMS Data Manager still being in the registry, but the location where the installation supposedly sits no longer exists. But I am not enough of a computer person to be sure that this is the reason.

Thank you for your support.

Chris

Forgot to mention: I am starting the installer from the desktop, with admin rights.

Wanted to get back to this and see whether somebody has an idea how I can solve this problem?

Hi Chris,

If you use the Control Panel\Programs and Features and find there isn’t an uninstall program, you should be prompted to remove the application from the list. Then you should be able to reinstall.

Failing that you might try Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed.

Otherwise you may need to use Regedit to remove Navigraph path from the registry.

In the meantime you can use Navdata Manual Installation
