flying the DC6 these days finally, it seems going well with GPS and VLOC ILS landings (just a bit of waving wings, but nothing serious). Planning with Simbrief and I find my max altitudes at about 12000/15000f, but the typical altitudes are 18.000ft and above for 400/500nm trips. Something wrong with my Simbrief profiles or what? I’m using the default DC6 profile.
Hi,
There is a great post in the PMDG forums here regarding optimum cruising altitudes for the DC6: https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/pmdg-dc-6-cloudmaster-forum/148282-typical-cruise-altitude
Long story short, SimBrief’s altitude optimizer often selects 12000-14000 since it’s more fuel efficient. There are many reasons you might want to cruise higher of course (terrain being one example), so you can always input a custom altitude in SimBrief’s Optional Entries section if you’d like.
Best regards,
Hello, I planned a flight LIRF/LSZH, flying through the Alps Simbrief suggests 14000ft altitude, but we have 10000/14000 mountains there.
