Ian, at the risk of overdoing my welcome I have a new “Wishlist” suggestion which might benefit many users. I am presently flying a route in the XPlane12 ToLiss A319 which, among its many features, allows the creation of an alternate “second” approach and landing runway, within the captain’s FMC. This is a handy feature which I imagine is implemented in the actual aircraft and which allows the operator/pilot to plan a secondary approach and landing in the event weather conditions change at the destination airport, a common occurrence. To implement this feature I first go to Navigraph Charts where I have my original route displayed. I then select an appropriate alternate runway, typically the opposite of the original, and the appropriate approach and STAR. I replicate this alternate approach within the A319 FMC in the “Sec F-PLN” page and implement it by selecting the “ACTIVATE SEC” option. So my suggestion is to enable Navigraph Charts users to toggle between both approach displays so each may be reviewed at a glance. Not sure if all of this is doable but I thought I’d put the idea out there to see what happens. As always I much appreciate your considering my suggestion.
You could use the pinboard to have different potential runway approaches ready.
You could copy the flight text string and create a copy of the plan (with a slightly different name) and modify it to the give the different runway/STAR combination.
But leave the wishlist item here and see how many votes it gets.
Thanks Ian. I’ll work on those suggestions. I am puzzled by “create a copy of the plan”. Not sure exactly how that is done. I tried using the “Add Alternate” feature but that didn’t seem to work. Copying the plan sounds quite logical but displaying it in the same or a separate window eludes me. Perhaps there’s a YT video that explains the process. —SH
Terrific! Works beautifully. So to see the alternate approach you just unload the present display and select the alternate… voila! The only thing faster would be a toggle button . Love it.
Ian, I find that after creating a new plan 2 then renaming it as specified, when I make a modification to the new plan the name reverts back to the original. For example, plan 1 is ABCD-EFGH, which I rename ABCD-EFGH - East. I then copy the route, close it, create a new route, paste the waypoints into the route line and rename it ABCD-EFGH - West. I then change the arrival runway and when I look back at the completed route the name has reverted back to ABCD-EFGH. Am I doing something wrong here or is there a preferred method of keeping the new title intact?
