Hello. When planning a flight with the King Air 350 profile, on the OFP I noticed that the reserve fuel is calculated for 45 minutes as if it were a piston aircraft instead of the ICAO/EASA 30min for the gas turbine aircraft (jets/turboprops) either choosing “default” fuel policy or “auto”, thus having to manually choose the fuel reserve policy to 30. I didn’t check any other turboprop profiles because I have none else in my fleet so I can’t say whether it is a common issue with other turboprops or specify to the King Air 350.
This is currently intentional. Different countries have different regulations, SimBrief’s auto mode considers turboprops to be within the 45 minute reserve rule.
Some workarounds include creating a custom King Air 350 airframe and setting the default reserve rule to 30 minutes, or simply setting the default reserve rule on the SimBrief flight options page to 30 minutes if you only fly turbojet/turboprop aircraft.
Best regards,
Thanks for your reply. I confess it didn’t come to mind that other countries could have different policies in that matter but your justification makes sense indeed. Actually the suggestion you gave is what I have been doing. I edited the airframe to use 30min, but other doubt came to mind. It’s not the case regarding turboprops, but it is with piston aircraft: recently (end of 2022 I believe) EASA changed the reserve policy from 45min at cruise level fuel flow to 45min at 1500 AGL (just like it is with jet/turboprops, but 45min instead of 30min). Does Simbrief account for this difference (cruise level FF vs 1500AGL FF)?
The reason I am asking this is, when I plan a flight with additional/extra fuel, I can change the name of that “extra” fuel to a few options on the drop down text box, such as HOLD form instance, but no matter what I choose, the value that I calculated is always the same, which means it doesn’t distinguish if I want for example, 120min extra fuel at cruise consumption or at hold or whatever (of course there are a few workarounds to have more precise results).
