Navigraph Charts In-Game Panel currently has a feature where, whenever something is pointed at or hovered over on the map, an information panel automatically opens on the left side of the screen (see the link below for a video demonstrating the issue in VR). The problem with this feature is that the information panel consumes a significant portion of the available Navigraph screen space, blocking parts of the map or chart. This requires the user to manually close the information panel every time it happens, which can quickly become quite annoying.
This issue is particularly problematic in VR, where the available Navigraph screen size is already limited due to the need for increased scaling for usability. A couple of observations: 1) The described behavior occurs in both VR and non-VR modes, and 2) it occurs when either the map is open or a chart is overlaid on the map.
At the very least, the user needs the option to disable the automatic launch of the information panel.
We do not have any logic that automatically opens that side menu unless you interact with the map by clicking it. Everything else is unintentional! Discussion about this is already ongoing in the linked topic!
Yes, it is similar. I can repost in that topic. Note that that the panel opens not only on clicking but also on HOVERING OVER a waypoint etc. on a map. To move/drag the map, the user hovers and long clicks the map - triggering the launch of the information panel. In the video that I provided, you can see that the panel launches every single time I attempt to move/drag the map. There’s currently an overlap between actions that are required to move the map and the actions that are programmed to launch the information panel.
I can’t reproduce this behavior personally. I’ll ask my colleagues to try when they return from vacation!
As for the video, please post it somewhere else where I don’t have to sign in to view it. YouTube unlisted works well, but if it is short, uploading directly here on the forum will also work!
It must’ve been because I had signed in previously. This is what I got:
I tried in a private window, and that worked!
I watched the video and didn’t see a single instance where you only hovered. Every time it pops up, you have recently been dragging the map. This makes the issue identical to the linked topic!
I originally thought that the “hover” part would be a new input to the already-known issue:
I do not see any difference between this report and the one in the existing topic. Do you agree? In that case, I can merge them!
See 0:10-0:12 and 0:19 timestamps in the video. I’m done moving the map and am just moving the cursor over the chart/map with no mouse buttons pressed.
Do you not agree that this is the delayed result of dragging? There is a delay between the moment a click is registered in the map and the moment the menu opens since the panel needs to contact our servers.
Can you produce a clip in which you never initiate any sort of drag or click in the map and still get the menu to show up?
I do not agree. The map has been dragged by that point and the mouse button released. If I don’t touch the mouse subsequent to dragging the map, the panel does not open (unless the cursor ended up directly over a map waypoint).
To clarify, the current understanding of this issue is the following:
When you initiate the dragging of the map, you press down with your mouse. You then pan around for an undefined amount of time and then release the mouse button. In your (and the other user’s) case, this results in the map registering a click for reasons that are yet unknown to us. Following this, there is a small delay while the panel sends a request to our servers, and then the menu opens.
This behavior is unintentional, and we have not changed anything related to it since the panel’s launch. We are also currently not able to reproduce the issue ourselves, but we are trying to extend our coverage by testing on multiple computers and simulator installations.
I am trying to clarify whether a simple hover of the map can also trigger this issue. So far, I have seen no evidence of this - both your video and the one provided by the other user clearly show that you are interacting with the map by dragging it. This is why I ask if you can reproduce this issue without touching the map!
That would be the only thing making this topic different from the other, which is why I am interested in the results.
OK, just tested it again and I am unable to replicate the issue just by hovering the mouse cursor over the map. The information panel opens ONLY subsequent to the map being dragged (i.e. mouse button being pressed and then released after the map has been dragged). Thanks.
Excellent, thank you for the confirmation! Then it’s the same issue.
It’s great you posted a link to this topic in the original one for additional reference! I will close this one now. Please track the original topic for further updates!
