How would it be possible I’m getting a virus alert from Windows Defender when downloading the TOPCAT navdata Airac 2507?. Please check what could be happening.
The virus detected is a Trojan:Script/Sabsik.FL.A!ml
Hi,
Thanks for contacting us - it looks like a “false positive” alarm from the Windows Defender …
I have checked the exe-file with the Kaspersky Analyzer, and the file is clean:
I have also checked the file with VirusTotal:
Also, with the Bitdefender tool, no virus:
You can be sure that our files are safe and without any viruses, trojans, or malware. We don´t need such techniques.
I hope that helps.

Will check with Virus Total myself. It’s quite strange, because all the other Airac files came in without issues. Thanks
Unfortunately, VirusTotal is giving me another warning, in particular a malware detected by “SecureAge”: Generic ML PUA (PUA). Posted also on Discord with the picture. And the warning is directly with the TOPCAT exe file. Couldn’t this be checked with the TOPCAT developer?
We are building the datasets and the data setup file, which has nothing to do with the Topcat developer.
I have re-downloaded it and re-checked the file, which is clean. The different application results indicate that this is a false positive alert. Our files will be checked before uploading to AWS and/or Google.
But something is wrong with your system because when I look at the screenshot (directly from Discord):
You see that you checked a file called TOPCAT.EXE
, but our data file’s name (inside the zip file) is topcat_2507.exe
(compare my screenshots). So, either you changed the name or something else on your system. We haven´t received any other report for such an alert, and I can´t reproduce it as you see in my tests above. Could it be that something is wrong on your side?
Cheers,
Richard
I intentionally checked the TOPCAT exe file after installation. There’s no such a name change, sir. The same result is produced on my second computer. Maybe nobody has noticed it before because I think TOPCAT is not used too much anymore. Your original file topcat_2507.exe produces also virus warnings, please see attached.
Regards,
But you are not the only one who uses Topcat …
Our data file, which you can download from our webpage, is clean. When you research the detected “alert,” you will see that this is not a virus, malware, or similar. It´s a false positive alert.
Cheers,
Richard
Hopefully it is.
Thanks anyway.
