Good afternoon,
Recently, I’ve been manually disabling OFP sections that I know I won’t be using - partially to reduce the paperwork on my end, but also to save some server cycles. For example, if I’m doing a purely domestic, short flight, I’ll turn off planned step climbs, ETOPS, and occasionally even the nav log.
I’ve never had to program something that draws maps, but I have a feeling that the map draw function is a pretty heavy lift, so I often select None
there, too. I usually only end up using the first few pages to set the payload and fuel numbers, and I don’t often dig into the nav log unless I’m flying a more classic airplane and need the frequencies (though I’ve been using Charts more often for that now, too). Flying real world, I like to ignore NOTAMs in the sim, since it’s the rare time that I don’t have to pay too much attention to them (though I’ll pull them up in Charts to check that all the runways are open).
At the aircraft level, we can set defaults of OFP type, lbs/kgs, but when I went to my account options, I didn’t find anything that stuck out to me. It might be useful to set user defaults in the user settings so that I can set a default of None
for maps, and then selectively turn them on it I think I’ll need them for the flight. Same goes for setting a default of Off/False
for some of the OFP sections (ETOPS, Planned Steps, Analysis and so on).
