I’m confused with the user waypoint component of Charts. In the FP image created the user waypoint by right clicking and completing the dialog box. When I click Flight Plan to close it nothing happens. If I click Global it wall complete the waypoint creation and the magenta flight plan line is created. Please explain.
Next, that user waypoint and flight plan to and from it does not appear in the flight string of pills at the top. It’s as if I can see the modification in that the magenta line is now respecting the waypoint I added but the flight plan at the top doesn’t. Why is that? (I see the DCT is there and with that pill clicked upon the chart shows the DCT path between flight plan points in blue).
Next, a question about drag and drop edit to the flight plan – when I drag the flight plan line to a location on the chart the flight plan line is modified to connect to and from that new waypoint but that new waypoint does not appearing the User WPTs panel. Why is that?
And finally, I cannot find a way to remove/delete a waypoint that I create by drag and drop of the magenta flight plan line. These do not appear in the User WPTs pane so that function of Edit | Delete is not recognizing these. And the earlier recommendation that I read where Ian suggested to a user that a “workaround” was to drag the waypoint on top of another and it would disappear doesn’t seem to work. How do you delete a drag and dropped flight plan line waypoint?
Thanks, this is getting frustrating. All comments welcome.
When you right click on the map you see a plus sign in a circle, and have the opportunity to +User Waypoint in left pane. You can then name the User Waypoint and Create it as a Global User Waypoint available across all flights, or Flight for just this flight.
To add this to your route you can right click on the named user waypoint and in the left pane, +Add to Route. You may need to specify before or after existing waypoints in the plan. The route on the map (and in the top route string) is now altered to include the named user waypoint. You can do the same add to flight plan on chart and in top route string by dragging the purple chart line line sector to the user waypoint.
If you simply drag the purple line to a position which is not a named User Waypoint you can add this to the flight plan with or without creating the User Waypoint
To delete User Waypoints, go to User Waypoints in left pane, press Edit, select (Flight or Global) User Waypoints you wish to delete and click Delete, or Delete All to remove all.
If you Delete a named User Waypoint, that waypoint will revert to coordinates waypoint in flights where it has been Added to Route
Okay, this is making a lot of sense and represents a paradigm and workflow that is different than I was thinking of. In it I see a lot of flexibility and make-sense functionality that I hadn’t expected.
Following your instructions I see a few things to ask about:
I can create only a global waypoint. When I select Flight for the waypoint a purple notice appears at the bottom of the screen that says Failed to create User Waypoint.
The +Add to Route function also fails with Something went wrong. Could not update the flight. Please try again later.
Interested in your thoughts.
UPDATE
When working with Charts yesterday and then writing the problem post above I noticed that Charts had processed an update to the app. Note that I was logged in at the time and have been since – that includes today when I experienced the ions that I wrote you back with immediately above.
The problem behavior just seemed odd for something as mature as charts, and together with your progressive I wondered if maybe if I logged out and then back in and tied again that things would operate as expected.
Well, that seemed to have done it! Now I can create both a Global and a Flight waypoint, and I can Add to Route and +Add Waypoint. And when I configure that Add to route the magenta flight line does, in fact, jump to connect with the User Waypoint I created.
I’ll continue to run through the remainder of your progressive, but for now I wanted to report back on the findings.
Yes, after logging out and then in again everything is working as expected.
I learned a lot from you. Thank you for your help.
To confirm, to manually edit its position in the flight plan and/or delete the product of doing this…
…I clicked the far-right pencil icon to make the flight plan text instead of pills and edited the coordinate waypoint manually out of the plan. Upon hitting Enter that waypoint was removed from the purple line and the line reconnected as it was prior. Is this the correct way to accomplish such deletions?
And, your instructions are exactly what I needed. Where did I miss reading this and these kinds of things? Is there a User Guide or Manual that provides instructions like this? Most of what I’ve been able to read offers “what” Charts is able to do, its features and functions not the how-to like you provided.
Makes sense. I did try that as it’s the most intuitive method. Prior to logging out and back in after the update this method resulted in only the “Autoroute” button appearing.
After logging back in and finding that this had corrected the problems I noted above I find now that this also has become corrected. Right-clicking on the waypoint pill does produce the “Remove” button. And clicking it does delete the waypoint and the purple route line adjusts accordingly.
Thanks, Ian, all good now. Interesting how logging out and back in resolved the problems. Note to self!
Looking forward to the self-study materials when you good folks can release them.
