Simlink needs to be running on the same machine as the simulator.
For Xbox, the aircraft developer needs to integrate Simlink directly in their aircraft; as per the above (table in the second link), 4 third-party aircraft do so.
Some aircraft in the list also support moving maps inside the cockpit instead (or in addition).
