I’ve noticed that whenever I have Charts open with Simlink active, it will work fine for a while, but after a few minutes in the sim, when I switch back to it the Charts app will have crashed. It has been doing this pretty consistently today, and come to think of it, since I first downloaded the software a few days ago.
To rectify the problem (Charts still shows as open, but the window has vanished), I have to force quit Charts and reopen it.
I quit Simlink and have had no issues with the Charts app since then, but obviously that undermines the functionality.
I am running X-Plane 12 on macOS 15.6.1 / M2 Pro. Charts is v8.38.3 and Simlink v1.1.34.2212.
Update:
Came back to macOS after leaving it locked and Charts is stuck in its weird limbo state again - despite not having Simlink active this time. Clicking it does nothing and I have to force quit.
I’m using a VPN and that sometimes does disconnect on lock - but not when in game. I don’t have any relevant AV/Firewall settings enabled. That said, I’ve now distilled the problem down to 2 simple steps, independent of anything else:
Open Charts.
Hide (but not quit) Charts.
Charts will no longer open from the dock, and must be force quit and restarted.
The only way it works is if I keep the window permanently visible.
On the basis of that I am saying there is some fundamental problem with how Charts handles the app lifecycle. This should probably be moved to the Charts forum rather than Simlink.
Unfortunately all of this means I am paying for a subscription to a product that currently doesn’t work for me.
The Simlink application runs in the background, so if you are using a VPN, it may affect the Simlink application since it continuously checks in with the Navigraph server. If you enable the VPN while running Simlink or the Charts application, you’ll need to restart the applications or disable the VPN.
Please let us know if you still experience any issues after disabling the VPN.
