New in game panel faa charts very laggy

Did the Day/Night switch work for you?

Interesting.

Another experiment that I’d love to see you try is to use our avionics plugin and the sectionals that come with it! Not sure what aircraft you usually fly, but if you could give something with a G1000 a go that’d be great! And then - do you see the same framerate issues with the sectionals?

I still haven’t tried the day/night switch. I’ll give that a go next time.

I currently fly planes with analog gauges or the G3x. I can try the G1000 version of the PC-6 and see what happens. It might be a few days until I can try it.

The Day/Night switch did not work for me. Sadly I am unable to use this service at all until sorted. Really sucks because I just bought it in December.

Not at all? Are you only using FAA sectionals? Do you have the same issues when using our other maps?

Update…
Updated my GTN to the Pro version to include Navigraph data, and low & behold, performance is back to normal.
But then again, this could be because I got away from OpenXR & went with the Q3.

I flew the same route I have been flying, but this time in the NXcub, which uses a G3x rather than the GTNxi. I also did not use Axis and Oh’s this time. I saw the same issue, with the FPS dropping from the low 50s to the mid 30s not long after takeoff, when I zoomed out so that the sectional was visible. I zoomed in to the VFR map level and the FPS returned to the low 50s. I zoomed back out to the sectional level, and the FPS was stable for a while, but soon dropped back into the 30s. At this point I thought I would try the day/night trick. I switched from day to night, then back to day. Interestingly, the map showed the VFR map, even though I was still on FAA sectionals and was still zoomed out. No amount of zooming changed to the sectional map. Instead, it stayed with the VFR map. However, when I switched to the VFR map then back to FAA sectionals, the sectional map appeared again. And this time the FPS stayed in the 50s for the remained of the flight! So it looks like the day/night trick worked, except for the additional need to cycle between VFR and sectional views. And it looks like the issue is not with the GTNxi.

I have seen this issue too, and we’ll look into it. Probably unrelated, but who knows?

I am sorry, I was probably not clear enough in my communication.

I would like you to try with an aircraft equipped with a G1000 specifically, using our avionics plugin which brings the same map (including sectionals) directly into the instruments IFR/VFR Charts feature! You can read more about it here:

It’d be interesting to know if you see the same frame drops using that map as you see when using the panel. Please try a flight with the default Cessna 172 (G1000) with the IFR/VFR Maps open and the panel completely closed!

Looking forward to your findings!

Kind Regards,
Malte

This is interesting, so you don’t see these issues anymore using the Quest 3?

No, I understood. It’s just that I don’t fly with the G1000. First I wanted to make sure the problem wasn’t due to the GTNxi, since all my other flights were with that unit. I’ll give the G1000 with the IFR/VFR maps a shot (and the panel closed).

I repeated the flight in the 172 with the G1000 displaying the FAA sectionals (and the panel closed). I zoomed in and out a lot, and also scrolled the map. I saw no FPS drop at all. In fact, the frame rate was about 4-5 FPS higher than I was seeing when I used the panel with the other planes. It seems the maps are working nicely with the G1000, and it’s the panel that is causing the problem. I hope you can get things smoothed out with the panel, since the G1000 is a pain to use in VR, and I really like the interface with the panel. Thanks for looking into this!

That is quite interesting indeed since it’s the same map with the same technology. It could turn out to be a limitation in the simulator that affects toolbar panels in the end!

We shall do some more investigations, time permitting!

Kind Regards,
Malte

This mirrors my experience exactly. There is something going on that’s relatively new that affects the drawing of these FAA sectionals and the other maps (to a much lesser degree). It’s so strange that the Day/Night switch clears up the frame rate problem.
Please address this Navigraph, your in-game panel is indispensable!

I think we need to post which HMD we’re using. My issue seemed to dissappear after switching from the G2 to the Q3.

Which HMD did you purchase to test this issue?

That is a good idea! I have the Q3

We have had lots of issues with the G2 in the past…

I’m using the Pimax Crystal with PimaXR and OpenXR Toolkit. Not using SimUpdate 15beta

I have not had time to test with the old version of the panel but I see it’s being narrowed down here to the new panel and SU15 and possibly OpenXR. I am also using an HP Reverb G2 and still having the same issue but the Day/Night switch works just fine as a workaround for the moment.
