In game panel update

Yes, I fly a lot in VR.

Does this mean that the Jeppesen charts will not show up in the upcoming PMDG 737 tablet, or the MFD of the FlightFx Honda jet?

Bill Clark

Bill,

All third party integrations will work just like before, showing Jeppesen charts like they always did. Also the in-game panel will work like before. We are not removing any features. The topic here is that we are not right now able to update the in-game panel to Charts 8, it still stays on 7 for technical incompatibility reasons. We are researching possible workarounds as we understand it is an important tool, especially for VR users, and we’d of course love to bring the new features and VFR charts to VR users too.

Regards,

Stephen

and what about Xplane… as per my question above…
Would appreciate any info…

Hi,

We don’t have any in-game panel in X-Plane. Avitab is a 3rd party addon, please ask the developer about what is possible and not when it comes to possible limitations in X-Plane.

Kind regards,

Stephen

I think everyone is being too polite to the developers in this thread. Talk about burying the headline. This should have been made clear up front during the development process instead of leading us along to think this would be seamlessly integrated into MSFS as the previous version has. Where was the heads up this wouldn’t work in sim? If it was posted somewhere it certainly wasn’t obvious. I have an annual subscription which is already paid, if there were a way I could punish the developer financially for this bait and switch I would do it. Shame on Navigraph.

Don’t know if not being polite is the solution. And looking at the responses here I think it’s fairly clear that people are pi**ed, disappointed and angry at the way this has been done. I think Navigraph underestimated the importance of the in-game panel to the users, and the amount of users that where using it, and now they are scratching theirs heads wondering where it all went wrong! :joy:

Hopefully they will realize the situation and do everything in their power to bring as much as possible from verison 8 into the in-game panel ASAP, or I think there will be a lot of disgruntled customers that will start to vote with their wallet.

Hi,

I updated to Charts 8 and when I launch it on the desktop the new version appears fine. However, when I launch MSFS 2020 and bring up Navagraph the old version is showing. Not sure what to do to fix this. Thanks.

Chris

That’s what this entire thread is about  Short story, Navigraph 8 is not compatible with the in-game panel in MSFS, which is stuck on version 7.

I am just finding out from other people that new Nav8 does not work in VR… is this true ! if so then you should have given update to vr users, I don’t care about Navigraph on other monitor I cannot see it. Now I did not yet 'luckily" DOWNGRADE to this new version hopefully I will not be forced to… if so then I would expect I will get refund because I will not be using it since I cannot ! How about you make warnings about this to people. Anyways would like to know from horses mouth what is going on with this new version… for now I will not update ā€œif that is possibleā€ hopefully.

I don’t think you can call it an upgrade. It’s just a lack of upgrade.
What you already have working, will continue working.

You just won’t get the new features in VR.

Sadly.

You can do nothing about it, it’s stuck on version 7

Like all the other VR users I am EXTREMEMLY!!! disappointed to find out that V8 or any of its new functions are not available in game. Whilst I understand the technical limitations reason I think they made a poor decision in releasing the V8 charts with no prior warning that it would not be available in MSFS and none of the new features included in the in game app.

I’m sure there are features in V8 that don’t rely on the new tile technology that could have been implemented, such as the airport weather, and the preferred runway based on current winds, both very useful features for ā€˜at a glance’ information when planning arrivals. To have no updates to the in game version at all makes this all the more disappointing!!!

Not a very well planned or executed V8 release by Navigraph in my view!!

Hi all,

We hear your feedback and we understand your frustration. We agree that communication around this could have been better both before and at release of Charts 8. We apologize for that and learn from it moving forward.

We have also said in the forum posts in this thread and others that ā€œwe research possible options for its future developmentā€, and this is not just empty words meaning it will never be done. It actually means that, we have a very active focus and ongoing technical investigation in the options at hand, on how we can potentially bring an update to the existing in-game panel. As it is a complex topic we did not want the release of Charts 8 on other platforms depend on it, and this is why the panel is still the old one - and again our communication around this could have been a lot clearer.

Rest assured our goal is for our VR users to be able to use as much as possible from the new v8 features in-game. We’ll provide updates on this matter as soon as we know more.

Kind regards,

Stephen

that is why I called it DOWNGRADE !!! for over $100 a year I better be able to still use my Nav7, I am fine with that , I do not fly 2d so their stupid nav8 they can keep it, might not be renewing this subscription if this is their take on things !

We are not removing the panel. You can still use it as you did before.

Stephen

Hello there,

I am not even a VR user, but I am pissed off that basically in order not to switch to Windows all the time, I have to buy a tablet! I just found out that the apps are not compatible with phones only tablets, cloud version is useless on android phone and iphone (broken, not usable) and also the guide for fullscreen shortcut to web app doesn’t work in Chrome nor in Safari. It just open in a regular browser to a mess.

So basically only way to use this not inexpensive sub is to invest in a tablet too.

As with the VR users here my biggest frustration is not that it doesn’t work on phones or inside the sim, but the fact that this is not communicated anywhere.

I asked about VR in the beta in August, and said I assumed it ā€˜would be a bit later’. Here was the reply:

So what happened? Was it discovered after this or was it more a decision just not to say? Obviously I’m a bit disappointed.

If a technical solution is being looked at the might I suggest something like an OpenXR layer plugin from the new v8 Windows app? It would have native performance, would work on all VR devices and would support MSFS and X-Plane 12 (going forward, as Laminar are adding OpenXR support). The author of the OpenXR Toolkit is a developer at Microsoft and could assist - he has helped numerous developers make the move to OpenXR - Quickstart | OpenXR Toolkit

Bad all round, what makes it worse is the new features are brilliant and worth the price increase but as things stand us vr users are at a disadvantage.

We discovered this much later. We had wrongly assumed that the built in browser would not be limited when it comes to webGL support, so we discovered it when we were bundling it to release the panel for testing in the late beta phase. In hindsight we should have not assumed that and tested much earlier.

There must be a way to get this to work in VR. I am also really very dissapointed by this. Even a simple approach initially.
