Thank you Ian.

I found the forum difficult to be honest. It didn’t present well on my Laptop and I couldn’t seem to add comment under the title. There was too much other stuff about and it wasn’t clear at all, plus, the black background on the forum site is a bit disconcerting particularly at night in unlit areas, like on a remote apron somewhere.

Please visit the ‘Piper aircraft forum’ and you will see what a good forum website looks like and indeed how easy it is. Don’t ever let the ‘geeks’ take over your website, it will always get too complicated as they try to show you how clever they are as they try to ‘out-geek’ the next geek. Generally, for us older folk who find this sort of stuff difficult enough anyway, if a kid of 12 can’t work it out it’s probably too complicated or unclear.

I am not sure what information was requested, it wasn’t obvious that anything was requested, what information do you require?

My suggestion was simply to be able to put a ‘created’ waypoint into the departure and destination boxes when planning a route. My flying does not necessarily take me to airports but frequently I land in fields that are not designated airports. In case of bad weather I will divert to airports with ILS etc. and that is why I subscribe to Navigraph, for the approach plates. Navigraph is great in that respect, to be able to get the approach plates whenever I need them, as I do not have the space for a whole pile of Jeppesen carts in my aircraft, along with all the other stuff I take with me, Like a dinghy for example. Furthermore, I ferry light aircraft all over Europe and taking all the Jeppesen charts with me on a commercial flight would just eat my baggage allowance.

Best Regards,

Captain Bob Lee.

Hi Bob,

I think you want to enter user-created waypoints rather than airport names into Charts or SimBrief?

This feature doesn’t exist, but you can enter custom points directly into the route string between two airports

Sorry to bother you again,

I frequently flight into grass fields, one of which is on an island in Scotland and is at least an hour away from a suitable alternative if the weather is bad. I am aware I can create a user waypoint, that is what I have already done, but in order to create an accurate flight plan I don’t need a destination that is an hours flying in a different direction. I just wanted to be able to insert my user waypoint into the destination box. Similarly when I depart from that destination I don’t want to have to start the plan from an airfield I am not at.

When selecting the Destination or departure point, I would simply like to to be able to insert my user waypoint. The UK also is littered with old war time airfields that are not listed with ICAO codes but are still used for private flying and gliding etc. By creating a user waypoint for these unlicensed airfields and strips, I can use the planning options for a flight in and out, but annoyingly I have to start or finish with a ICAO airport which is often miles away.

It must be the same in the USA and Canada, where farmers and other land owners have private airstrips. In Canada there are a huge amount of destinations for float planes and flying boats, none of which are listed. I just think it would be great if we could put a user waypoint as a destination or departure point.

Given that your database has all the airports already, why could it not look at all the waypoints as well, including user waypoints?

Thank you Ian for your prompt replies. I can always tell a good organisation by how they respond to customers and I think your company must be a good one. Credit to you.

Best regards,

Captain Bob Lee.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for the kind words, which are much appreciated.

Your request to permit user-defined waypoints in the origin and destination boxes in Navigraph Charts has been correctly posted in the Wishlist category. You haven’t mentioned SimBrief.

At the moment, I believe yours is the only request.

Make sure you vote for it above. We take the number of votes into account when evaluating new features.

Cheers

Ian
