a short question: for longhauls it could be necessary to update your wind data during flight. The question I would like to ask is:
If I just refresh the flightplan page on SimBrief, the little map on the right gets updated with new weather data (clouds, etc.). Does the same happen with the enroute wind data you can download/request in your FMS onboard? OR do I need to (re-)generate the flightplan again for the wind data to update?
You would need to re-generate the flight plan in SimBrief, then re-import it into your aircraft’s EFB, then re-request the winds through the FMC.
Might be worth mentioning here that SimBrief already plans using forecast winds when generating flight plans. So if you generate a 12 hour flight that departs now, the descent winds it uses will be the 12 hour forecast winds (not the current ones at departure time). Likewise, the winds in cruise mid-way through the flight will be the 6-hour forecast.
Forecast models are updated every 6 hours, so if you re-generate the same flight 12 hours later, there may be some slight changes to the winds as the forecast gets refined. But most of the time it shouldn’t make a big difference.
