AMDB Airports

How to find out which airport are AMDB Airports?

Hello! Sorry for the late response.

We have no complete list of the airports we cover with AMDB data. What is your use case?

Kind Regards,
Malte

I initially thought your “AMDB” airports were any and all airports where e.g. taxiways and parking stands are indicated when zooming into “airport view”.

I was looking at this thread:

Both LPMA and ENVA (or Tenerife North GCXO) do seem to have the information I originally expected:

But then looking at bigger airports like Tenerife South GCTS or London Heathrow, I did notice some “extra” detail, so I guess those two would be considered “AMDB” airports whereas the others are not?

I imagine a list would be interesting, if only out of curiosity

It looks like basically any airport that features information about Gates in NG Charts’ Networks section is a “high-detail” AMDB airport, is this correct?

Regards,

Tim

That is correct.

We do have some of this information for airports not covered by AMDB. In such cases, the data is likely sourced from OSM and is thus not as detailed and/or high quality.

We currently do not have the means to provide an exhaustive list of AMDB-covered airports. Perhaps we’ll add it to our airport listing site (navigraph.com/airports) in the future!

Oh, I didn’t expect that! Good to know, thanks for the info

Tim

@skysail questions like this seem to be increasingly common lately:

Having a list of AMDB vs. non-AMDB (and therefore OSM) airports would allow to quickly look up whether the lack of taxi lines is expected at a particular airport. It might also make sense to explain the difference on the same page where the list would be.

Regards,

Tim

We currently don’t have any plans to create such a list.

However, going back to what I wrote here:

This was released today! You can now see whether an airport has AMDB coverage or not by looking at its dedicated page. For example:

In contrast, an airport that does not have AMDB won’t show any AMDB availability:

This should help determine whether an airport is covered - even for non-subscribers. We’ll be referring to this one from now on!

It is also worth noting that airports without AMDB coverage have two possible backup sources: Jeppesen VFR Data and OSM. This means that some airports will be quite detailed even without the high-precision AMDB data.

Do you still believe that an exhaustive list would be necessary?

Best Regards,
Malte

Well this is an exhaustive list, albeit “decentralized”

Cheers,

Tim

I guess, eventually / time permitting, it might be useful to indicate whether the airport is covered by Jeppesen VFR data on the same page.

Regards,

Tim

We shall consider it for future updates! :+1:
