ZBAD ILS issues

I’m noticing some pretty big deviations in glideslope when landing on runway 17s at ZBAD. Videos of the issues can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RxoqKxERvg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnHPdi35IF8&t=4266s

I’m using TaiModels ZBAD and I checked the threshold elevation of all 8 runways which averages about 112ft. The navigraph published elevation of the 17s is 76ft. However, a 40ft disparity shouldn’t contribute to a glideslope deviation as serious as the ones shown in the videos above.

Hi,
Unsure what you expect now … What is wrong in your eyes? The elevation that we offer is correct. Have you tested the same without a 3rd party scenery?

Cheers
Richard

I’m not sure why the glideslope is so much higher as shown in the video when the actual runway elevation is also higher than published data. That seems pretty counterintuitive. I need to do a dive bomber maneuver to land at the runways. I checked the runway position with the actual chart and it seems to be correct.

If the runway is 40ft HIGHER than published data, isn’t the correct glideslope supposed to be taking me to 10ft over the threshold instead of 200-300ft as shown in the video?

Hi,
I don’t know the 3rd party scenery, so I will check this with the stock scenery. The critical point is the runway elevation and the glideslope antenna elevation.

I will check both our data and the values in the AIP to ensure that our data is correct so far.

Hi again,
Here is what we have in our database:

airport;runway;gs_elevation;rwy_elevation;crossing_height
ZBAD;RW01L;00092;00072;57
ZBAD;RW17L;00098;00076;58
ZBAD;RW17R;00098;00076;55
ZBAD;RW19R;00102;00082;56
ZBAD;RW29R;00092;00070;58
ZBAD;RW35L;00098;00076;53
ZBAD;RW35R;00095;00076;56

All in feet - do you see the difference between the runway and GS elevations? So the base elevation of the airport itself is significant, because the GS elevation should not be less than the runway elevation (usually). When the GS elevation is wrong, the result could be a bad touchdown zone.

Cheers,
Richard

So hopefully in theory if the scenery dev lowers the airport elevation to around about 75ft everything’s going to work out again? I have reached out to them before I posted here. Since ZBAD is mostly flat (82ft on 19R and 68ft on 11L, only a small 14ft gap), they should be able to simply lower the airport in its entirety without tweaking terraforming.

Just to confirm that the bad glideslope shown in the two videos are caused by actual scenery runway elevation being higher than gs_elevation? If that’s the case I’ll let the devs know that they need to lower their airport to around 75ft.

Hi,
I am not a scenery designer, nor do I have enough knowledge about it, but that’s what I have seen over the last couple of years (also in 2020), resulting from a few discussions with other 3rd party scenery devs.

Cheers
Richard
