Update outdated Ukrainian city names (Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipro, Kropyvnytskyi, etc.)

Hello,

I would like to request an update of several Ukrainian city names currently used in SimBrief.

Some locations appear to use outdated Russian transliterations or Soviet-era city names instead of the officially recognized English-language forms used internationally today.

Examples:

  • Kiev → Kyiv

  • Lvov → Lviv

  • Dnipropetrovsk → Dnipro

  • Kirovograd / Kirovohrad → Kropyvnytskyi

  • Odessa → Odesa

  • Kharkov → Kharkiv

  • Zaporozhye → Zaporizhzhia

  • Nikolayev → Mykolaiv

  • Rovno → Rivne

  • Cherkassy → Cherkasy

These are not simply alternative spellings.

The names above are consistent with:

  • Official Ukrainian government transliteration standards

  • The Ukrainian AIP

  • EUROCONTROL publications

  • IATA naming conventions

  • U.S. Board on Geographic Names standards

In addition, some entries such as Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovograd are no longer official city names and were legally renamed in 2016 to Dnipro and Kropyvnytskyi respectively.

As SimBrief is an aviation-focused platform, aligning these names with current international aviation and geographical standards would improve data accuracy and consistency.

Thank you for considering this request.
