TFDi MD-11 Error: Unknown UserID

Hello,

after countless attemps, even with help of the TFDi support I still can´t import the Simbrief OFP into the aircrafts EFB.

I have tried both my Simbrief username, as well as the Pilot ID, have tried with a newly created second Simbrief account as well as with the Simbrief account of a friend. All of it shows me the same Error: Unknown UserID.

The only time it worked was with a Simbrief username and OFP provided by TFDi Support. Aircraft is up-to-date.

I would appreciate any help!

Hi there,

I just got into my MD-11 and was not able to recreate your issue. My flight plan loads fine and I also get a flight plan up when I use your name i as Simbrief Username in the airplane’s Options>Comms settings.

Can you try again and just check if everything is spelled correctly? Also try deactivating any antivirus while you give it another go?

Hope it works, let me know if not!

Cheers,

Erik

Hi Erik,

do I understand correctly that you used my Simbrief username in your MD-11 and it worked? What exactly did you type into the Comms settings?

I have tried every method; Simbrief ID, Username, typed with my keyboard or the EFB keyboard, copy paste it or type it in manually… All that at least a dozen times, also assisted by TFDi Support as mentioned. With them I also could confirm that my Simbrief username is saved in the aircrafts files after typing it in the EFB.

Nothing works for me sadly (Navigraph charts work fine though).

I don´t have any antivirus software running except Windows defender. I just rechecked and the aircraft is up to date. I have also already reinstalled it numerous times and also tried in MSFS2020, same issue.

Thanks for your help!

Robin

Hi Robin,

Exactly, I used your name “KidneyBone” (typed it both with EFB keyboard and hardware keyboard) and then loaded the flight plan. Does it look like yours?

Try turning off Windows Defender and see if it makes a difference. I also checked if it is perhaps case sensitive but it all worked. I only got “Error: Unknown UserID” when misspelling either your or my name. For sanity check, can you try to log in to SimBrief in the MSFS EFB?

Let’s see if it works!

Cheers

Erik

Hi…,

Similar to Erik,

I was able to log in to the MD-11 EFB using “KidneyBone”.

(Your last saved SimBrief plan was for an A319, rather than MD-11, so I got an error to that effect in the MD-11. If I use username “KidneyBone” for Felix A319, I can load your latest saved flight plan without error)

Incidentally, when I load your MD-11 flight plan into SimBrief and Generate to my account, I can load it without error on the MD-11:

If you have a connection issue, you might try disabling your antivirus and firewall and connecting to the internet via a mobile hotspot.

Cheers

Ian

Hi Erik and Ian,

thanks so much for your help. I am beyond confused as to why it works for you with my username and not for me.

I have tried with firewalls turned off and a mobile hotspot as you suggested but to no avail. I wanted to reinstall the plane once more but that´s giving me issues as well right now so I´ll have to bother TFDi support once more,

I will be in touch once that´s sorted out.

Best regards

Robin

Hey guys,

quick follow-up.

I managed to install the MD-11 again, it´s directly installed into the main directory of msfs2024 so no addon-linker or anything.

Unfortunately it still doesn´t work for me. I am out of ideas. Do you guys have anything else in mind I could try?

Thank you.

Robin

Hi Robin,

Looking deeper into our logs, it seems the EFB was trying to call the following from our API. Note all the extra %7F before your username, which is an invalid character (more specifically, a URL-encoded “DEL” control character):

/api/xml.fetcher.php?username=%7F%7F%7F%7F%7F%7F%7F%7F%7FKidneyBone&json=1

I don’t know exactly how or why the EFB is sending these, it could simply be isolated to your specific keyboard or system. Or maybe it’s a general bug in the TFDi EFB itself.

In case this is something that’s affecting other users, we have just updated SimBrief to strip out these invalid characters when processing the request.

It should simply “work” for you now next time you load the MD-11. Let us know next time you give it a try!

Best regards,

Hi there,

you guys are legends, it works now!

Really interesting that my copy of the MD-11 did this, over and over again even after reinstalling it multiple times.

Thank you so much for looking into this!

Have a good rest of the week!

Best regards

Robin

Hi Robin,

Thank you for the kind words.

@SimBrief has provided a great solution with application for others also.

Cheers
