I think a simple tool that many pilots would find useful is the ability to create distance rings from a waypoint, aircraft position or coordinates for quick reference.
Here’s why:
- It helps with situational awareness by providing a clear visual reference of distances around a point.
- It’s useful for planning holding patterns, visualizing arrival and departure procedures, and monitoring progress during a flight.
- It can also be helpful in emergency situations, such as engine failures or diversions, to quickly determine what airports or navigation points are within range.
- Many EFBs and flight planning tools already include this feature because it’s fast, practical, and commonly used by pilots.
- Having it built in would save time and avoid the need to switch to another application just for this task.
Another feature that would be very useful is the ability to quickly mark a direct-to any waypoint from the map. This would allow pilots to instantly update and visualize the current route after receiving a shortcut or route amendment from ATC, making flight planning and situational awareness even more efficient.
