Suggested route not suitable for airframe

Hi, as the title suggests, I had a problem where the pdf report chart showed my altitude to be 7000ft but when imported into the G1000 it listed FL260 even though my airframe had a ceiling of 18000ft. It turned out that the suggested route had an approach which required a FL260 entry.
Are the suggested routes not based on airframe type?
Thanks

It’s perfectly normal in real life to cancel restrictions that are above your cruise altitude.

For example, scheduled airline traffic between KRDU and KCLT goes via the CHSLY6 arrival, where the altitude restriction at SDAIL is 17000ft. The cruising altitude fo these flights is 16000ft, so they just delete the restriction at SDAIL.

I myself have been given the COATS5 arrival into KIAD flying a lowly Cessna. The FALKO point on that arrival has an altitude restriction of 10000ft. My cruising altitude was only 7000ft to begin with. ATC didn’t even mention to cancel the restriction, it was obvious that it didn’t apply to my cruise altitude.

So, unless the FL260 is a terrain restriction (unlikely outside of the Himalayas) just delete it if it is above your cruise alt.

In Europe there is the further complication of needing the route to pass CFMU validation to be able to file without requiring special handling.

It looks like the issue route in question is:

EGHH MC	195	DCT SAM Y8 GWC DCT OCK M185 BPK N16 BKY T999 OTBED Y70 POL N601 INPIP	INPIP1E	EGPH	Notes: 445

…straight out of the UK SRD but not passing CFMU validation even in an airliner, much less in a DA42. So technically it’s not suitable for any airframe presently.

What’s perhaps noteworthy is there are multiple routes in the SRD from EGHH to EGPH but only one is in Simbrief’s database. I thought they were meant to be retrieved (semi-)automatically? ( this is for @SimBrief )

EGHH 245	255	DCT SAM Q41 SILVA UM605 DTY DCT SAPCO UN57 POL UN601 INPIP	INPIP1E	EGPH
EGHH 245	660	DCT SAM Q41 SILVA UM605 DTY DCT SAPCO UN57 POL UN601 INPIP	INPIP1E	EGPH
EGHH MC	195	DCT SAM Q41 SILVA M605 DTY DCT SAPCO N57 POL N601 INPIP	INPIP1E	EGPH

P.S. for a DA42, I can get the following route to validate but at a minimum of FL130 (due to a plethora of airway level restrictions):

(FPL-N042SB-IS
-DA42/L-SBDGRY/S
-EGHH1020
-N0174F130 SAM Q41 SILVA M605 DTY DCT SAPCO N57 POL N601 INPIP INPIP1E
-EGPH0227 EGPF
-PBN/A1B2C2D2L1S1S2 REG/N042SB EET/EGPX0205 TALT/EGCC RVR/075 RMK/TCAS)

Rather interestingly though, Philipp’s point stands as the FL260 and FL200 restrictions on the INPIP1E are very much not enforced by the validator (even though it will enforce it where applicable e.g. on the EGLL LOGAN arrival):

Still, the FL300 at BARMI and FL250 at LOGAN (on the LOGAN2H) are again not enforced by the validator either.

Hi,

Thanks so much for the detailed reply. I did find the lower routes by searching the approach charts.

The issue I’m having is that I’m using BeyondATC and you can’t change the restrictions in there.

I just found it strange that in the flight plan it shows the altitude as 7000 but giving FL260 in both the sim and beyondATC.

Cheers, Simon

Hi, thanks for the reply. I managed to file at fl120 using a different approach but still find it odd that the suggested isn’t right.

Cheers Simon

That’s a problem (or limitation) with the sim and/or BeyondATC.

All the official standard routes between EGHH and EGPH use the INPIP1E arrival:

EGHH	245 255 DCT SAM Q41 SILVA UM605 DTY DCT SAPCO UN57 POL UN601 INPIP INPIP1E EGPH
EGHH	245 660 DCT SAM Q41 SILVA UM605 DTY DCT SAPCO UN57 POL UN601 INPIP INPIP1E EGPH
EGHH	MC 195 DCT SAM Q41 SILVA M605 DTY DCT SAPCO N57 POL N601 INPIP INPIP1E EGPH
EGHH	MC 195 DCT SAM Y8 GWC DCT OCK M185 BPK N16 BKY T999 OTBED Y70 POL N601 INPIP	INPIP1E EGPH	Notes: 445
EGHH	MC 245 DCT SAM Q41 SILVA M605 DTY DCT SAPCO N57 POL N601 INPIP INPIP1E EGPH
