Strange step descent in the middle of a flight

NZAAWADD_PDF_1720378219.pdf (892.4 KB)

Can anyone speak to why there is a strange step descent to FL200 in the middle of this flight plan, which then later climbs back to FL360?

FL STEPS NZAA/0340/NETTY/0360/SU/0200/EML/0360/DAPMA/0380

My best guess is that this is because in that segment SimBrief has chosen to follow low IFR airways, but I am unfamiliar with how that works in this part of the world. If that is the reason, shouldn’t SB be “smart” enough to avoid that? Is there a configuration option I’m missing that would allow me to remove that specific step climb but leave the rest as generated?

Looking at this route, there are many segments that don’t appear at all on SkyVector’s high enroute map; I think the solution might be to build a new route yourself. To me it just looks like a “bad user route” so to speak.

You can disable the step climbs feature and still enter step climbs manually in the route text box as a workaround if you really want to use this route.

Tim

Keeping in mind that wherever there is no preferred route (eurocontrol validated, irl route, srd route, vatsim cleared route) the default route offered by simbrief is whatever the last user planned for the given city pair.

rfinder ( ) gave me a much simpler/shorter route that’s all high airways:

UPLAR A464 SCOTT J208 BN G326 LIKTO Q484 ROM G326 NYOMA

Which looks sensible on the map (barring any unforeseen/unknown local restrictions).
