STARS missing RW16 at YMML

Hi…

In setting up a flight YPPH-YMML in Simbrief, there are no STARS for Rwy 16. Navigraph Charts shows them clearly (e.g. ARBE8A). Using the autoroute function in Charts produces a proper flight path and procedure. (Similarly, LittleNavMap also produces a proper flightplan using the ARBE8A STAR.)

Bug in Simbrief?

Follow up…: Scanning the available routes in the section “Suggested Routes” the proper STAR is included and can be selected… (So it’s just a minor annoyance…)

Hi…,

Yes, you can see ARBE8A STAR in the SimBrief map:

Glad it is resolved.

YMML is my home airport

Cheers

Ian,

I just tried to plan a flight in Simbrief YPDN-YMML and again there’s no STARs for Rwy 16.

After importing the above flight into Charts, Charts does allow inserting the ARBE8A arrival and the ILSz RWY 16 approach. Doing so the flight path still includes traveling to ML and then back to ABBEY for the final approach. One then has to delete all the “additional” way points…

This clip shows the doubling up of the flight path.

Followup…

Ian,

After rebooting my system (just in case) I’ve tried several other flights (YBBN, YBTL, YSSY) all with no STARS for Rwy 16. (Tried YPPH-YMML again and this time no STAR for Rwy 16)

Flying from NZAA-YMML gives the BOIN1A approach - which is appropriate…

Interestingly, flying YPAD-YMML does include to ARBE8A STAR. Doubly so since the YPPH-YMML route passes over YPAD…

This is all rather frustrating - getting different results for identical routes…

Rob

Hi Rob,

Just to clarify so everyone’s on the same page. I think your issue is not that SimBrief is missing STARs for YMML, it’s that it isn’t proposing a STAR in the default suggested route.

This is intentional and is not a bug. Note how the default suggested route is provided by VATPAC, and comes from the real-world standard routes document for Australia. Typically the real-world standard routes in Australia do not include a SID or STAR. I guess the intent is that you are not supposed to file them and should instead wait for ATC to assign one in flight.

Now, if you want to override that and plan a STAR anyways, simply click the “Find SID/STAR” button in SimBrief. If it warns you that your current route does not connect with any SID/STARs, click the appropriate button to use a different route. If that still doesn’t select a STAR, in some cases you might need to manually select a different route from the suggested routes list. But normally at least one route in that list will include a SID and STAR.

Best regards,

Thanks Ian…!

That explains all…!

Cheers!
