Simbrief AIRAC cycle for flight planning

I would like to confirm that the most current Simbrief AIRAC cycle that is available to plan flights is equivalent to the last AIRAC cycle you have purchased (or the Simbrief default AIRAC cycle, whichever is more current). My last AIRAC cycle purchase was 2507, however it appears that only cycle 2403 is what is available for me to plan a flight. Thank you.

Did you use Simbrief and unlock cycle 2507 there while you were subscribed? If it was never unlocked, it won’t be available on Simbrief even if you were subscribed during cycle 2507’s active period.

Hi Rodeo314,

Thank you very much for your reply. I did not utilize Simbrief when I was subscribed to AIRAC cycle 2507 nor have I subsequently. I will probably be purchasing a March AIRAC cycle subscription (2603) so will definitely make sure that I unlock / utilize Simbrief. Am I correct in assuming that if I do not make another AIRAC purchase for 6 months or so my Simbrief AIRAC cycle will remain 2603? Thank you very much.

Whatever you download during your subscription remains in place. So if you unlock SimBrief while 2603 is current, you will have access to SimBrief 2603 data from then on.

A similar situation applies to navigation data. If you download the AIRAC data for, say, the PMDG 737 whilst 2603 is current, you will have access to that downloaded data going forward for the PMDG 737. However, you do need to actually download the navigation data.

Cheers

Ian

What Ian just explained.

Just a small note about the navdata you download for aircraft addons: once installed, the data will not expire; however, as far as I know, you can only download the current active cycle, so if you need to re-install it later, you should back up the data on your end (as you won’t be able to download it once cycle 2603 is not active).

FMS Data Manager has a feature that keeps a copy of the downloaded data locally; I am not sure whether Navigraph Hub does as well.

I am also unsure how you would back up navdata for newer addons where it is downloaded and installed via the aircraft EFB.

As far as Simbrief goes, however; once unlocked, cycle 2603 should remain available indefinitely (although in a few years, if the free Simbrief cycle becomes newer than 2603, then – IIRC – you would be automatically upgraded to that newer cycle; but with the possibility to manually re-select cycle 2603 somewhere in Simbrief settings if you want).

Hi Ian,

Thank you very much for your reply! It is very good to confirm that the purchased AIRAC cycle remains available going forward.

Hi Tim,

Thank you very much for your explanation and help! I really appreciate it! Had not thought before about backing up the cycle data, thank you for bringing that to my attention!

You are welcome. Glad it is resolved.

Happy flying

Ian
