Runway and Taxiway Discrepancies at VIDP Using Navigraph with FS2020

I recently subscribed to Navigraph’s paid service and have been using it alongside Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. My home airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport (VIDP) in New Delhi, India. However, I’ve been encountering some issues that I hope someone can help clarify.

While taxiing at VIDP, Navigraph charts show the aircraft as being on a runway or taxiway, but in reality, within the simulator, the aircraft is on grass or completely off any paved surface. This misalignment makes ground movement quite confusing.

Additionally, when I create flight plans using Navigraph, the runways listed often do not match those available in the Airbus A320 MCDU within FS2020. For example, on a recent flight plan from VIDP to VIJP (Jaipur), the arrival runway suggested by Navigraph didn’t exist in the simulator’s database or the A320’s MCDU.

This mismatch defeats the purpose of planning with Navigraph, especially when the runways don’t correspond across platforms.

Has anyone else faced similar issues? Is there a recommended fix or workaround—perhaps related to navdata synchronization between Navigraph and FS2020?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello! Welcome to our forum!

I hear that you are having three issues:

  • Areas shown as taxiway or runway in the Charts app are shown as grass in the simulator
  • Procedures shown in Navigraph Charts are not available in the simulator
  • Runways shown in Navigraph Charts do not match the simulator

All of these issues can be explained by one single thing: The airport layout has changed, and the simulator has not yet caught up. Navigraph is showing correct information, the simulator is outdated.

Checking Indian news, it seems that the airport has undergone significant changes in the last year. In addition to a new terminal opening (and another closing?), the airport has also added another runway. The satellite imagery in the simulator has not yet caught up to this fact.

This means that what previously was RWY 29 is now RWY 29L/R and RWY 11L/R. This exposes a flaw in how MSFS works - the runways in the scenery decide procedure availability, not the navigation data. This has been an issue since 2021 and is documented here:

This layout change also means that areas that were previously taxiways are now either grass or runway area, or vice versa, which is why you see the discrepancy when showing your live position.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, there is nothing that Navigraph can do about this. This issue usually comes up when an outdated addon scenery is installed, but this time you are (likely) using the default scenery. This means that your options are:

  • Wait for the simulator to catch up, updating the scenery to include the new runway
  • Purchase a scenery add-on that correctly includes the new layout changes

Let me know if you need any further assistance!

Kind Regards,
Malte

FWIW, sometimes a freeware addon is also available to update the scenery layout for a given airport.

In the case of VIDP specifically, as far as I can tell, neither the freeware nor the payware seem to have been updated recently so it looks as though you are out of luck (for now).

Tim

True! Sometimes there is a good freeware alternative too.

The FeelThere Scenery looks updated according to the pictures?

The description says The airport has 3 terminals and 3 parallel runways. where there are now 4 runways which led me to believe it’s not fully up-to-date. The airport was released (presumably as 1.0.0) in October 2023:

…and assuming Aerosoft’s shop shows the correct latest version number (they usually do):

Current version: 1.0.0 …then the scenery has not been updated since.

It’ll be (probably) be more current than the freeware:

…last updated 4 years ago, but I suspect the payware will still be missing the 11L/29R runway.

Tim

Edit: I see what you mean about the pictures, image 13 of 17 does seem to show both 11/29 runways. I won’t purchase it just to try, but it’s indeed possible that it would fix the problem.

Additional checks suggest the new runway was already open by October 2023 indeed:

Although there may still be additional discrepancies if more construction has occurred since, it would still be an improvement over the other available alternatives (default airport and freeware from flightsim to).
