Hello, I noticed a flaw in the route calculation when using the “to include specific airways, route segments” section. When I enter a specific route segment and it seems to me that there is a reciprocal route on the route, it get an invalid route. There are NOTAM exceptions when it is possible and even necessary to use a reciprocal route. For example, I can’t create a route that includes a required route segment according to the NOTAM.
According to this NOTAM, the Mandatory route segment from UUEE to the URML airfield should be:
ABAGI B105 NIMTA B105 NATIT MOLED N50 LIDUS G242 ZG ITAKA RIRAN
Hello!
Thanks a lot for the detailed report and including screenshots, super helpful.
You’re correct that the NOTAM mandates consecutive use of the B105 across two segments, which is valid real world routing. The route calculator is, however, flagging this as invalid which doesn’t reflect the operational reality in this case.
I have escalated this to the SimBrief team for review.
In the meantime, as a workaround, you can enter the full mandatory route string rather than using the route calculator, this should process the route correctly without triggering the validation error.
Hi, you are correct, it was due to using airway N50 in the opposite direction.
I have updated the route calculator to allow manually-entered wrong direction airways now. Note that the final flight plan will still show a wrong-direction notice, but it will no longer prevent you from using the airway.
Best regards,
Some aircraft FMS systems will still reject the route (either on import or manually entered) because the database doesn’t allow flying N50 in the direction mandated by the NOTAM.
I wonder if it might make sense for Simbrief to “sanitize” the “incorrect” segment (MOLED N50 LIDUS) into the individual waypoints (MOLED SL SUBED LIDUS)?
Regards,
Tim
