Restore not working in FMS Data Manager

Hi again Ian,
sorry to interrupt here but currently it´s not 100% clear what you expect, what you want … So please, can you specify your question now - we have lost your way here, sorry …

I have identified now different things here in this posting - so what is the right question now?

  • you want delete only the backups in the FMS Data Manager?
  • you have an issue in XP11, that you see an older/outdated version but you want the current one?
  • you want to use an outdated XP11 version, when yes which cycle and which XP version?
  • you want to restore an previous backed up XP dataset from the FMS Data Manager?

Thank you very much,
Richard

PS: and sorry for the third face here in your posting  … but we are working in a team, where we discuss such issues to solve it fast and efficient - therefore sorry for the questions again

Hi Richard,

I was trying to restore a previous backed up XP dataset from the FMS Data Manager.

I wanted to go from airac 2014 to 2013, and as I saw that the FMS Data Manager had a restore feature, and that the list of backups of airacs in the FMS Data Manager goes back to the year 2018, I thought I would give that feature a try instead of manually copying my 2013 Custom Data folder to XP.

If you read back to earlier posts with Malte, you will see that when I tried to do the restore, it didn’t work.

As a note, I am on macOS 10.15.7, XP 11.51 (was on 11.50 when I first tried a backup).

Thx…IanQ

Ok thanks for the clarification Ian … now, that you have deleted the backup-folder, you can´t make any restore. So, what´s the issue now?

What do you mean with

How do you do this?

Cheers,
Richard

Yes, I deleted the contents of the backup folder as Malte suggested, then with XP at 2013, I used the FMS Data Manager to download 2014. So at this point my backup folder contained the backup.idx file and 1 .bak file of 18.6MB.

I then went and tried to do a restore and had the same problem, the restore icon flashes for a microsecond, but no restore occurs.

(The backup files cannot be correct, usually I also have an 80MB+ .bak file of the same date, sounds to me like the FMS Data Manger isn’t really backing up the full airac…)

To manually reset XP’s airac I keep a copy of the Custom Data folder from previous versions and then just copy the contents into XP, giving me the previous version of airacs.

Ian

Thanks Ian …

When I made a zip-file of the “Custom Data” folder (only the navdata-files and the CIFP folder - which is necessary for XP11.5x) - also get approx. 18Mb

80 Mb is far too much or you use a compression rate which is very low, no idea but the backup-file looks ok (from the size). But, to verify it - have you any possibility to upload the backup.idx file + the one *.bak file somewhere and can you provide us the link for looking deeper into the file, if the backup is ok or not?

A second request:
Rename the “Custom Data” folder to “Custom Data - backup” (or similar else), so that no “Custom Data” folder exists in your XP11.5x root. After that, try the restore again … same result?

Cheers,
Richard

Okay, that is what my new backup folder has, an 18.6MB file, I assume that is airac 2013.

In my old backup folder (before I deleted it, I do have a copy though) there were a bunch of 80MB+ files. For example, I would have an 18MB file with date 20201203, and an 89MB file with the same date, the names slightly different.

I tried your suggestion of renaming Custom Data so that it is as if I have no airac data, but got the same problem trying to do a restore.

I have uploaded my current backup folder to my Google drive, here is the link, hopefully it works…
