Good morning sir! Hope you have been well.
I have noticed recently that the PMDG flight plan file that you can download (or program to be auto downloaded and added to PMDG’s Flightplan folder) is very basic in nature and doesn’t have much functionality compared to what it SHOULD auto populate, like it does in the real world.
The current PMDG Flightplan (.rte file) version Simbrief uses will only input the following:
ORIGIN
DEST
Route in between SID and STAR
In the real world, when you request the flight plan from the FMC, it will input the following:
ORIGIN
DEST
FLT NO
SID (if applicable)
Route in between SID and STAR
STAR (if applicable)
I can provide real world documentation/proof of this being the case, if you need me to do so.
Below, I have attached a modified .rte file that has satisfactorily includes the following:
ORIGIN
DEST
FLT NO
SID (if applicable)
Route in between SID and STAR
STAR (if applicable)
AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY WHEN YOU REQUEST TO LOAD IT INTO THE AIRCRAFT’S FMC!
I know it is a lot to ask but is there a chance you would be willing to add this functionality to the PMDG flightplan .rte file, Derek? I’m sure the community would be super happy and supportive of this new change if you did.
Let me know what you think of the concept.
EDIT:
The FLT NO in the .rte file is SWA1234
The ROUTE in .rte file is KMDW MIDWAY6 LEWKE GIJ J146 ETG MIP4 KLGA
Definitely concur with this. Southwest Virtual has amazing resources and a team that can assist with this to match the real world operations. Can only assume this will benefit the community greatly even outside SWA ops!
The .rte file they are using is following the .rte guidelines we have provided to them in the past. The .rte SHOULD NOT have SID/STAR information on it as it can cause issues loading the .rte in the FMC.
Again the .rte format simbrief is using is based on what is proper to be used on the aircraft
To add to Chris’s reply the SID/STAR are actively removed if contained in the .rte import as is certainly the case using the OP’s posted route and the NGXu.
With all due respect, I think you owe a little more of an explanation than “it can cause issues loading the FMC.” There is no issue with the .rte file @pucksnplanes20 posted. It loads everything correctly.
This is a huge additional feature uncovered by a user. It makes the route uplink behave like the real aircraft. I’m not sure why you’re trying to shut this down.
I hope that Navigraph adds this feature. This post has 50 upvotes within 24 hours while the others in this category have 0. I think that speaks for itself.
@srcooke I’m trying to understand the reason PMDG would be against this when it clearly works and makes the user’s experience even that much better (and realistic).
Below, I have attached a different route file (KLAS-KBWI) and a video demonstrating that the PMDG FMC allows the capability to auto populate SID, STAR, and FLT NO from the .rte file.
Maybe try to find a workaround for that issue then, hard as it may seem? To shoot down a user idea that implies added realism to the FS experience seems counterintuitive for someone whose mission it is to develop such an amazing aircraft simulation….
