Override Initial Cruise Level When Planning Step Climb

A little question,

Is it possible to manually set the initial cruise level when planning a flight with step climb enabled? It’s a southwestern bound flight so it’s mostly flown at even flight level. But, there is one southwestern bound segment in my flight plan that need to be flown at odd flight level. It’s not a long segment, just like around 20-30 nm out of 2600 nm total of the flight route.

SimBrief gave me a combination of F380-F390-F380. The aircraft’s service ceiling is 39800 ft, so it’s not possible to climb to F400 after that odd flight level segment. I’m trying to make a continuous climb here, so the other scheme that could work in this case will be F360-F370-F380. To do this i need first to override the initial level from F380 to F360. Is this possible to be done?

Hi Christo,

Currently the easiest way is to do the following:

  • On the Flight Options page, click “Calculate and Compare”.
  • In the window that shows up, you will see your route with auto step climbs inserted.
  • Copy this route, and re-paste it back into the “Route Option” (you can paste it as-is, the airports and runways will be ignored, and the initial altitude will be read from the route instead of using the “Altitude” option. The speed portion of the step climbs will also be ignored, only the altitude is read).
  • Modify any step climbs directly in the route as needed.
  • Generate your flight plan.
