NZAA AVNA2Q SID visualized incorrectly

This is with IGBAT transition

Text instructions:

From AVNAT track 231 to 10 000. Turn left at or above 10 000 direct to LIMES. […]

The depiction is technically correct, but does seem a bit (overly) conservative/pessimistic as to when the aircraft will reach 10 000 feet MSL.

It appears that even a very heavy A321 should usually be able to reach 10 thousand by AVNAR (quick testing using Simbrief), so the climb performance model used by NG Charts may need some fine-tuning.

Regards,

Tim.

Thanks for the report, we’ll take a look into this.

Edit: the transition instructions are present on AIP New Zealand

https://www.aip.net.nz/assets/AIP/Aerodrome-Charts/Auckland-NZAA/NZAA_62.01_62.02.pdf

I was referencing the instructions from the Jepp chart itself here:

…but they are also indeed present in the New Zealand chart:

Regards,

Tim

And here an example Simbrief plan where the A321 (known as a somewhat slow climber), taking off at over 89 tons (reasonably close to MTOW) can seemingly reach 10 200 feet MSL by AVNAR:

The altitudes in the Simbrief climb logs are not always particularly accurate (as mentioned by Derek here and on the old Simbrief forums back in the day), but it still shows that it’s reasonable for most jets to reach 10 thousand near AVNAR (and probably in many cases, before the waypoint), as opposed to miles (and miles) away like Navigraph’s visual depiction suggests.

Hence why I think perhaps the climb predictions in Navigraph Charts should be fine-tuned a little.

Tim
