MSFS 2020 CTD when use navigraph base navdata

Since I updated msfs2020 to version 1.39.9.0, once I install and use the msfs basic navigation data published by navigraph (with “navigraph-navdata” and “navigraph-navdata-base” folders installed in the Community directory), there is a probability of over 90% of crashing when running msfs2020. However, as long as I remove these two folders from the Community directory and delete the corresponding two index cache data files (navigraph-navdata. dat and navigraph-navdata-base. dat) in the Microsoft. FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe \ LocalCache \ CeneryIndexes directory, there will be no more crashes.

Hi,
How do you install the AIRAC cycles? Via the Navigraph Hub? Can you please upload your content.xml file here?

Further, please write a short email to account@navigraph.com with your subscription account because it seems different from the account you use here.

Thank you
Richard

this is content.xml file.

thank you

Thank you!

  1. You can confirm that you updated the data via Navigraph Hub, right?

  2. Also, you can confirm that you haven’t installed any 3rd party sceneries, right?

Cheers
Richard

Thank you for your response

  1. Yes, I used Navigraph Hub to update, and the current version is 2511 rev.3
  2. Yes, I have installed some third-party landscape plugins. However, I have tested that even if I delete all the files in the community directory and only keep the “navigraph navdata” and “navigraph navdata base” folders, my msfs2020 will still crash, but as long as I delete these two folders (regardless of whether I have third-party plugins), msfs2020 will run normally.
  3. Flashback mostly occurs during the descent, approach, and landing preparation phase.
  4. I have also tried some other methods, such as keeping only “navigraph navdata” (deleting “navigraph navdata base”), and the problem of crashing will also occur.

  1. My OS is Windows 11 25H2. When a crash occurs, I go to the application log of the system and can see the same error log below every time:
(I am from China, so the error log is displayed in Chinese)

  1. Additionally, my MSFS2020 has not installed any world updates or city updates

Hi,
Thank you very much. It’s hard to pinpoint the root cause of this issue because it is not a general problem. We have no other reports of CTDs in MSFS, neither in this forum nor in our ticket system.

Usually, 3rd party packages are the main reason for such CTDs because they are:

  • not 100% compatible with the latest SIM version
  • The loading order in the content file is not correct
  • or the scenery is removing the navdata information from our packages

We see a lot of CTD user reports in the MSFS forum, which often occur without our data, but with display driver or other settings. There are no logs or similar that can help us identify the CTD. It’s possible that some settings in your configuration conflict with our data, but again, I can only speculate why you’re experiencing a CTD on your system.

We don´t have any evidence of a data issue that results in a CTD with this cycle, so it must be due to another “unknown” issue. You wrote that this issue started with update 1.39.9.0. I have checked the changelog, and there are no changes between the previous version and the current version in the navdata on our side. This suggests that there may be another issue outside of our radar.

Have you tried to reinstall MSFS 2020?

Cheers,
Richard

Richard,
Yes, I have tried to ‘fix’, ‘reset’, and even reinstalled my MSFS2020 several times, but the problem still persists.
Crying haha

Understood, so it is not the MSFS itself … hm, difficult to say. Hardware? I don´t know sorry …

Cheers,
Richard

My computer configuration:
1 cpu:amd7800x3d
2 mem:32G ddr5
3. Graphics card: nvdia 4070tis, driver version 577.00

My computer hardware should be fine, except for the one I am currently experiencing, all my other applications are running normally.
I understand that you may not be able to help me yet, but I greatly appreciate your response.
I will also try using other methods to solve this problem.
We can discuss together.

No problem, you are welcome …

We also have only limited possibilities to check such CTDs. The limitation starts when we can´t reproduce it, as in this case. There are so many “unknowns” also for us, which we can´t check, that sometimes it is impossible to offer any help. It doesn’t happen very often, thank goodness, but it looks like, in this case, I´m at the end of my knowledge.

I´m sorry… and thank you for your kind words. Please let me know if you identify the reason for this issue - much appreciated!

Cheers
Richard

PS: I have removed the auto-close timer - so this topic will be open, till we have found an answer - ok!?

I reinstalled my MSFS2020 yesterday (which is a huge project), and after installation, all settings (including general settings and auxiliary settings) were restored to their default configuration, without installing any third-party plugin models or plugin scenery.
The configuration of the computer is as follows:
1 CPU:amd7800x3d
2 GPU:Nvdia 4070tis, Driver version 577.00
Under the above configuration, use the default 747 model of msfs2020 to fly from zsam to zspd (default scenery). We conducted the following tests in sequence:

  1. The community directory only has two folders, “navigraph-navdata” and “navigraph-navdata-base” (version 2511 rev.3 installed through navigraph hub): msfs2020 crashes after running for more than 10 minutes.
  2. The community directory only has’ navigraph-navdata ‘. Remove’ navigraph-navdata-base 'and recreate the landscape index for msfs2020: msfs2020 crashed after running for about 50 minutes.
  3. Continue to delete ‘navigraph-navdata’ from the community directory and rebuild the sceneryindex of msfs2020: I have made three round trips between zsam and zspd without any crashes.
  4. Put the folders’ navigraph-navdata ‘and’ navigraph-navdata-base 'back into the community directory. About 30 minutes after ZSAM take off, MSFS2020 crashed.
After each crash, the error logs collected in the application logs of the operating system are as follows:

出错应用程序名称: FlightSimulator.exe,版本: 1.39.9.0,时间戳: 0x00000000

Hi,
Sorry to read this, no idea why the SIM crashed on your system. I’m sorry.

I have also tested your departure from ZSAM. Currently, 50 minute flying time is ongoing, with no CTD. It seems like there is an unknown reason why your system crashed. Sorry about that.

Cheers
Richard

Thank you for your support. I am still exploring, it is a long process. I have been exploring since August
I have also provided feedback to the Microsoft team regarding this issue, but unfortunately, no effective solution has been found yet…
I am very sad:(

I have also posted on the Microsoft team these days seeking help,

Let’s think of a solution together and see where the problem really lies.

Hi,

Today, I bring with me a significant discovery from the past few days. The reason why my MSFS2020 frequently crashes while using Navigraph navigation data is highly likely related to the AI machine function of MSFS. Here are the situations I tested:

Test environment: msfs2020+navigraph ariac 2511 rev.3
1、When I turned off the ‘LIVE REAL-WORLD AIR TRAFFIC’ feature in msfs2020: allowing the plane to fly continuously for several hours, msfs did not experience any crashes (even in the zsam and zspd airport areas where I used to crash frequently). But as long as I turn on the “LIVE REAL-WORLD AIR TRAFFIC” function of msfs2020 during the flight, or open other third-party AI software (such as fsltl), my msfs2020 program will immediately crash.
(Please note that opening the “LIVE REAL-WORLD AIR TRAFFIC” function in msfs2020 will cause it to crash, or keeping this function turned off and starting third-party AI software will also cause msfs2020 to crash. In other words, any way of starting an AI machine will cause msfs2020 to crash.).
2、I tried to disable the “LIVE REAL-WORLD AIR TRAFFIC” feature again in msfs2020, or not start third-party AI software(eg. fsltl), so that the crash would not occur.

After repeated testing multiple times, the results were found to be the same.
Msfs2020, AI machine function, navigraph navdata, What is the unclear relationship between them?
Can you help analyze this discovery again? Where exactly is the problem?
Thank you, looking forward to your reply.

Hi,
Thank you for the follow-up, but I’m a bit confused at the moment. You wrote that this happened after a clean reinstallation without any third-party packages. Now, you wrote that this happened when you use any third-party add-ons, such as FSLTL, for example.

There is a document regarding an unknown issue with a few Chinese airports and FSLTL. Unknown because we were in contact with ASOBO/MS without any result. The data structure is correct, but these CTDs occur only in this area.

So, I’m a little bit confused about what you have tested now. Therefore, again the question:

When you DON’T use any 3rd party software, excluding navigraph, can you confirm the CTDs too or not?

Cheers
Richard

hi,Richard
I am glad to receive your reply.
Indeed, as I mentioned before, when I just installed msfs2020+navigraph navdata (the community directory has no other third-party plugins except “navigraph-navdata” and “navigraph-navdata-base”), my msfs2020 crashes. But as long as I delete navigraph navdata and navigraph navdata base, msfs won’t crash anymore.
Let me organize the scenarios I tested again:
1、Only msfs2020+community directory 0 (meaning there is nothing in the directory): does not crash
2、Msfs2020+navigraph navdata(the community directory only have “navigraph-navdata” and “navigraph-navdata-base”): crash
3、Msfs2020+other third-party plugins (excluding navigraph): do not cras
4、Msfs2020+navigraph navdata+other third-party plugins: crashing
However, in the previous testing scenarios 1, 2, 3, and 4 mentioned above, the “LIVE REAL-World AIR TRAFFIC” function in msfs2020 was always ON (because it is always ON by default and I have never changed it).
But during these two days of testing, I found that as long as I changed the “LIVE REAL-World AIR TRAFFIC” function in msfs2020 to OFF, none of the above 1, 2, 3, and 4 would crash.
I wrote a bit too much, I don’t know if you can understand what I mean.
Thank you.
