Hi. I update my NavData every month (mostly for use in X-Plane 11), but many airports which offer GLS approaches in the real world, such as London Heathrow and London Gatwick, have no GLS procedure to choose when setting up a flight in Little Navmap (which is included in my monthly AIRAC updates).
Some airports do show these missing GLS approaches in Little Navmap, like UUDD, so I wouldn’t think the problem lies there (?)… If the GLS option is in LNM, then it is also present in the aircraft FMC. If it isn’t, then it isn’t!
In short, how do I get GLS approaches to show in LNM (I use this to create my flight plans) alongside the ILS/VORDME/RNAV etc. options - and hence, presumably, in the a/c FMC destination procedures page? Is the GLS data actually even in the AIRAC info I download every month (say for EGKK, my local airport)?
Hi,
I´m not sure if we’re on the same page, but there are no GLS approaches available in the UK, neither at EGLL nor at EGKK. I have checked the NATS, but I haven´t found any GLS approaches here either.
In general, yes, we offer GLS approaches too, but only where available, and I have not found an airport in the UK with a GLS approach. But you can check, for example, LSGS (the GLS25 approach), LSZA (the GLS01 approach), … With the right certified aircraft, you can fly this in XP11 too.
Here, the GLS 25 approach into LSGS from the XP11-data (AIRAC 2606):
G means IGS, not GLS. The identifier for GLS is J, you will find some at LSZH, EDDF, KEWR, and a few more.
As far as I can tell, GLS approaches may be available in the UK to specifically-authorized airlines on a trial basis, although I am having a hard time finding a reliable source for it.
You are right, mea culpa, my fault … It´s J and not G, but also here, we offer these approaches too. Here are a few examples directly from the X-Plane 11 dataset:
But that does not change my previous answer - I have not found any GLS (J) approaches in the NATS. Possible that there are airline-tailored approaches or trial approaches, but these approaches are not officially published via the AIP UK.
Hi. Thanks for the replies. I was basing my query on internet searches, which informed me that EGLL and EGKK (as well as a number of other airports I didn’t mention - Chennai, India, VOMM, for example) do have GLS approaches available - but of course, information gleaned from internet searches can hardly be taken as ‘gospel’! In fact, now I make the same search again, the data is entirely contradictory: some sites do say that neither Heathrow nor Gatwick have GBAS ground stations (shame on them, when, for example, all of Moscow’s major airports do! ).
In essence, if Navigraph update their AIRAC cycles to include new GNSS/GBAS-enabled airports, as they come online, then all is well I guess.
